Ok im about to put my sx in the dumster

It's pissing me off

Got new rings new almost everything in it and it still runs like shit

tors unplug

It bog's for a bit and after it start's going but at 4000 rpm it bog's again and sometimes it just stalls

Sometime it runs good so please help me fixx it before i
:die: #$%&* :o| ;):D

I'm going to sound like a broken record but, did you check the compression on both cylinders?

Also, I would take a look at your clutches. I have seen a tuned sled brought to a stall because of a wrong/broken clutch setup. It never hurts to rebuild your clutch and make sure everything is alright. I think they got a few threads on clutch rebuilding somewhere on the forum.

It's not the year for SX's.

I will buy your top end from you before you dump it. hehe.

Sounds like maybe a carb problem...

Here if you want it I Live in Chapleau Ontario

But if you could help me fix it it would be appreciated I would like to keep it but I dont know what's wrong

Compression is good

But it not because of the clutch It the motor that bog it wants to stall after 4000 rpm

Chapleau? hmmm

What kinda shape is the seat in?

Hows the track? What shape is it in? Looks like a 1"...?

I can maybe get up there tomorrow sometime... heh.

Did you go through and clean all the carbs up??

PM me your phone #.

Also, what did you do inside the engine? just re- ring it? how did the cylinders look?

The sharks are already on the hunt I see ;)!

"Compression is good" is not what i'm looking for. What are the numbers? A motor with 70 PSI on one side and 130 on the other would "feel" like it has good compression from the pull rope. I'm not trying to be pushy but I have heard "its good" only to find out it was tested by just feeling the pull rope.

Does this 4000 rpm stall happen at all throttle positions? What happens if you just slam the throttle?

Are the spark plug cables in good shape? How about the low voltage cable from the coil to the motor itself?. Do the plugs seem to be very wet? What about disconnecting the kill switch/key to see if a bad switch is causing random problems.

Main causes for bogs are:

Too much load too quick (not happening if your clutches are good)

Too rich jetting (too rich or warn needle setting, rich main or both)

A hole in your expansion chamber/pipe

Spark cutting in/out making the motor load up with fuel. (shotty cables, coil, CDI/coil pickup or even the CDI itself sometimes)

Warn reeds can also cause weird problems

Just call me "Jaws". lol

Don't send the guy looking for reeds on an piston port Exciter. hehe.

Thanks for catching that. As you can see, I have never worked on that motor. I just got into snowmobiles over the last year or so. All of the Yamaha bikes/ATVs I have worked on were reed valve since the mid 70s. Thanks for the info.

The seat got a couple of rips
tracks a 3/4 with 96 studs some missing only got paddle in the middel, Not the best of shape but still good
It's got new rings ,heat gasket lots of new wheel bearings crankcase gaskets....
cylinders are good
compression is like 130 or 125 not sure on both side
carbs are clean and everything looks good

I just dont know what's wrong maybe it something stupid but i dont know

but I will wait a couple of days before selling it because im suppose to bring it to some guy that's a mechanic so if he finds the problem i wont sell it

so will see in a couple of days and if you still want it it's yours for 500 cash

Had one. Acted about the same. Dealer finally brought in into his shop, got 2 fat guys to stand on the skis, soaked the floor under the track with soapy water and held the throttle wide open. Acted the same way in the shop as it did in the field. Turned out to be a bad coil. Hope this helps you.
