I am changing the slides. I have the skid out and was wondering if anybody has any tricks for getting the slides started to pull off. They don't seem to want to move and yes the screw is out.

Score the top edge of the hyfax on the outside of the rail (the area that hooks to the top edge of the rail), then peel it right off. Just be careful with the rail when cutting.

They really are a PITA. I have done it both ways. The last time I replaced my hyfax I just peeled them off instead of sliding it completely out the back. It cut the time tremendously. I have also used a good ole fashioned pry bar and a rubber mallet but sometimes they get stuck on pretty good.

Thanks for all the info. I got them off with the screw driver and hammer. Once they started, they came off pretty easy. I had to take the skid off anyway to replace the track and while I was at it I put new Ryde FX shocks on. The slides I put on were graphite. Who has used graphite slides and how did you find them compared to standard slides. Also what does everyone think of the Ryde FX shocks. Again thanks for all the response.

Agreed that they are a PITA. I gave up doing it with the skid in. I have vowed to just start out every season with fresh ones which I will replace in the off-season with the skid out for maintenance.

A good way to get the slides off next time is to coat the rails with something this time. I've used Teflon spray, silicone spray, and recently have been using Cyclo lithium grease with Teflon spray, all with good results. They slide right on and slide right off. I tried graphite slides once. They wore out just as fast as the UHMW and cost 5 times as much.

After changing my slides on my 2001 SX700R 3 times I decided to see if there was a better way. I used a screwdriver, an air chisel and even peeled them off. All of those ways are a complete pain. I bought the EZ-Slider from http://www.blizzardproducts.com. You need to drill a pilot hole at the rear of the slide so that it goes in straight, but wow, each slide will come out in less then 5 minutes. The EZ-Slider really gets a hold of the slide once it is all the way in there. It also makes changing your slides while on a trip doable unless you forget it as I did while doing the Grand Marais Miller 500 last Friday . The tool is $70 and well worth it.
