I checked and cleaned my Viper powervalves for the first time in 6000 miles. By the way they were not stuck and not too gummy. My SRX on the other hand had two of the cables unattached. The valves were just hanging in there. I guess they were gummy enough not to slip in and kiss the pistons.
From reading this forum it seems like this is where they break. I ordered 3 new valves. Is there anything unusual about the reassembly? How are the cables secured to the valves?

I HAVE USED THE DREADED YAMMALUBE ON BOTH MACHINES SINCE NEW.

I just bought a 98 srx 700 and I decided to take the powervalves apart also since I hear that there prone to cable failure and getting gummed up and once I took the covers off I found one that had a broken cable as well. Luckily I bought it off of a dealer and they gave me a 30 day warranty on it so they fixed it free of charge.I will be definetely be checking them and cleaning them every year. What kind of power loss do you get when they are faulty because I thought my sled rocked pretty good and they werent working right.

WOW.......and with yamalube your damn lucky.

Power Valves

Yes I guess I am lucky. I admit that I have been slack in the power valve cleaning area. It seems like the guys on this fourm have them figured out. I recall someone saying that they will tend to gum up faster at low speed. Well this might explain why the Viper had clean valves. For the past 2 years or about 4000 of it's miles were done in Quebec at insane speeds. Very little slow speed operation. My SRX sees more trail frendly speeds in New York most of the time. I have learned my lesson here. No more Yammalube and it's cleaning once ay year. The funny part is that I have a new GT and I am more excited now about getting my SRX fixed so that I can ride it!!! Tomorrow I'm going to get with BIG MAC 700 and he is going to give me Power Valve 101.

YAMALUBE!!!! thats no good go with amsoil fully synthetic, we take the powervalves out at the begining of each year, since we started with this oil, most of the stuff on the powervalve can be taken off with carb cleaner, no razerblade needed...

don't tell nosboy or vipertriplexxx this!!!!

with a new apex you have to clean the valves every 100 miles............ ;) just hop on the 4 stroke and go, no adding oil, checking plugs, cleaning valves :) man I want an apex. still LOVE the viper, just an apex is a SWEET sled lol!

I just changed to klotz. seems ok so far. about the same smoke as yamalube, but less of a potent smell. the fiances sle d(00 600sxr) runs better. more of a difference there, but that thing is RICH, so it stank and smoked bad. but performance wise, both sleds seem to have a tad more pop :) have to rejet the sxr though

Nothing but Yamalube 2S for over 3000 miles here. Valves slid right out, cleaned right up with some GooGone and a rag.

that's the one thing I didn't try (citrus).

Next time - Razor Blade sucks.

PB Blaster loosened it up pretty good though.
