First of all I know some of you won't be happy with me BUT I am on a limited budget and want to do more to my MM but won't be able to for quite some time. SO this is something I CAN afford to do and have a sled set up the way I want, with a longer track. PLEASE give me your honest opinions if you think the trade is worth considering.

I've got a chance to trade my 01 600MM for a 99 670 Summit with a 156 2" on it and a few other mods like 8" drivers and re-geared for the track. It's got 1600 miles on it and looks to be in great shape. I believe the motor is stock. Would I be getting a better sled? My MM has SLP Powder pro's, a can, reed spacers, jetted and air box modded. Stock 141 2" with the MPI transfer kit. It runs AWESOME for a 600 triple IMHO. Ive been out of sledding for a few decades, so not too up on all the subtle differences in one brand to the next. I've never been brand loyal one way or another, just wondering if this would be an up-grade to a better sled or not. It is 2 years older BUT both sleds are old school training arm models anyway. I know I will never be (nor do I want to be at my age!) king of the hill or the fastest to the other side of the lake. I just want a decent sled that will take me thru what terrain i have here in AK. Is the 670 as reliable as the 600 Yamaha triple? Any info would be appreciated. Please no bashing, just honest opinions.
Thanks!

ahhh, no, youd be going backwards in my opinion. the engine differance alone . that 600 triple is bulletproof.

Better off saving some money and putting a longer track on yours if that's what you want. Buddy has a summit... same motor as the one you're looking at (136" though) and it runs o.k. but I can keep up with him no problem on my 600 twin yammy. I think my sled rides better too... and definitely handles curves and hills better.

Personally, I don't see the need (vs. want) for anything longer than 144 or 151 for 90% of the riding here in SouthCentral Alaska.

My question would be, why is the other party willing to trade? (other than they're getting the sweeter deal).

I say, stay with what you have until you can afford to do what you really want.

I think you would be headed backwards. the 670 is a nice engine but the chassis isnt as nice as the yamaha inho. handling is a lot worse

Thanks

I appreciate the comments! I'm still undecided. I have never been on a 670 Summit of any year so I have no idea how the, ride, performance, handling, weight, etc difference would be from my MM. I hear what your saying AL, I was thinking that the 156" is a bit much for this area. I would LOVE to get a 144 0r 151 for my 600 but it will be a while! Man I hate it when you have a decision and don't know which way to go! It's really a toss up right now.

you KNOW what has been done to your sled and if you can trust it. who is to say how this other guy treated his sled? could be beat and not show. too much of an unknown, especially if $$ is tight........

The MM essentially has not changed since like 98 so they are comparable technology in terms of era and how they are over the hill compared to todays rides (so is mine and it is an 03!) If your sled is set up, runs strong, and is very reliable then I dont see any reason to change. Save your money instead of trading sleds. Used 144" or longer camoplast tracks come up all the time on snowest and just keep an eye on the swap meet for them.

I also seem to remember that SLP and Bender make tripple pipes for the 600 tripple and if you could find a used set of those pipes then you slap them on and have essentially a new sled.

Here's my 2 bits.......... I have ridden with lots of doo's and they are good sleds. But, I agree that you would be going backwards giving up your MMax.
No comparison when it comes to the engine, ride, reliability.
Did you ever wonder why the other guy wants to make the trade??????

Take the summit out for a whole day of riding and I believe you would forget about the trade.
