Revisited clutching LT SRX
2000 SRX, long travel'd, long tracked to 136 with 1.25 ripsaw, gearing 23/39, primary has red Maxximum spring & stock 8DN-20, secondary has green Yamaha spring at 70deg and Advantedge 51/37 helix..........new belt with about 50kms........out of hole about 8600 rpm and top at 8800......
So i know i need to add weight to the primary, i have a set of 8BU-00 at my disposal....should try these and what kinda weight should i be running the holes or should i just add more weight to the 8DN-20's?..........
thanks..............James

if it were me, I would run the 8dn-20's with 4.5 rivets in both and a yellow/silver/yellow primary spring, you could run the helix you have with green secondary, or try a 50-42, might be a little better.
The 8bu-00 are a great 500-660ft weight, they upshift very quickly, but they are not a very fun trail weight, they backshift as fast as a granny backs up a 18 wheeler at the grocery store.

Thanks for the response, i will start with adding the extra weight, which means i only have to change one rivet as the 8DN-20 has already one 4.5 in it.........James

Sorry for more questions but since the 8dn-20 have already a 4.5 and 3.6 will adding the .9 grams be enough weight or are there any alternative weight i could consider, like the 8dn-00 which is heavier base weight at 44.25g over the 8dn-20 at 42.9....like i said sorry for questions, i really have never played with my clutching myself (left it to others) but i am trying to become self sufficient.........James

I like using a w-w-w primary spring with 8dn-20,s.It has 14 kg less total force & upshifts pretty good. The 8bu,s can work well with a silver secondary spring & a helix with a shallow finish angle like a 51/43 & load the tip.

Ok, i went with the WWW spring over the red Maxxperformance (with more total force), added the 4.5g rivets to the inner hole on the 8dn-20 and tried 70 and 60 deg on green sec spring...........got the right hole shot rpms at 8000-8100 and pulls like a freight train.....did lower engagment to 3800 over 4000 rpm and on top end still running over revs at 8600-8700......anythoughts.........i did lower the deg of twist to 60 over the original setting of 70 with really no change, i think if i could add more weight to the tip would help but i don't think i can get anything over the 4.5g rivet it already has in there..........James

only way is to add 5.0 lead rivets to tip, weld some weight out under tip of weight or get the helix changed to something in the low 40's finish angle, the 37 finish is why your over revving.

Ok, a buddy found me a 8BVFA 51/43 out of a RX1 so i will try it out later this week, i will mark the secondary with a marker to see if i get full shift out, if i don't how much to get shaved off the inside collar, i have a MaxxPerformance helix that the collar is machined from them, would i just copy that?...........James
