Well the SX is back on the trail, one piston, rings, new main and pilot jets, and gasket set ($160)US. My cylinder was a little messed up but not bad, cleaned it up with some miriadic (SP) acid and 400grit sand paper. After a few break in miles she was pulling 90+ MPH on snow. Plug color is paper bag brown, looks like she might live yet!

Thats good to hear.
I also fixed mine with some old 88 cylinders and pistons.
Now, I gotta figure out why it only does 85 MPH on ice on th the gun...?
Cluthes are done, which may account for it.

I havent done a compression check, compression "feels good" motor runs clean and pulls hard.

If you used cylinders from a 88' exciter they have WAY different porting. The 91'-93' STD. exciters were diff. than the 87'-90'(little better) and the 93'SX was a one off-"special". Your flatslide prob. aren't calibrated perfect for the porting-airflow-I think the stock pipe or y-pipe was different too.(or both??)

I have about 10 tanks of gas through it now, and it runs well. I also have a PSI single on it.
It doesn't seem to have lost much power, I may get my cylinders re-done later on, but for now, this works excellent. The sled never really wanted to go over 85 MPH, ever. I know there's something wrong with it, but I can't pinpoint it. The rollers in the primary are done, I have a Polaro primary ready to go on it, to try out, I just need some weights for it.

Thats good -10 tanks of gas is alot...it would have went along time ago if your jetting was way off...Still I remember 'new' that those 93'sx's were pretty fast for the time-faster than 85mph--seems to me they had problems with secondary clutches -bushing wear/binding ?? can't remember exactly.. the motor was a little picky about temp. changes to--piston ported motor-not as forgiving as the reed valve vmax's... call bender racing they still do alot with the older stuff???
