I have a 97 700 SX that I am having a problem with. It looks like the secondary is getting stuck. It happens to me when I am climbing a hill it will just stop and sound like it grinding. On monday I lifted the hood and tried to move when it was doing it the belt is about half way down the secondary even the the sled not moving so it is to loose for the primary to grab it. The belt and clutchs were to hot to even touch after about 10 min. of riding, it was a warm day about 42 deg. So I dont know if it is a problem with the secondary sticking or if the belt is causing the problem? I am running a 8DN belt with about 200 miles on it but I had switch back to the old one to get home. My clutch set up is:Primary spring Yel/slv/yel, one shim, stock weights (8Ch), inner rivet 3.6 g., outer 3.1 g., multi angle helix, stock secondary spring at 60 degrees {3-3}. one layer on the head gasket, 1.25 track, can mod, reed notch, EYA's, rear long travel

Take the spring out of the secondary, and see if you can get it to bind by just pulling on one side only. If so, time to replace the bushings. It also sounds like you may have other problems as well.

Try setting the secondary at 70 or 80 degrees, that should help.
