I was told that i can cut down about an 1/8 of an inch on my ripsaw track where it would hit the tunnel protectors rather than buying smaller drviers... this owuld make since, because it would bring it fairly close to the size of the stock track... Would anyone strongly disagree with this or have any horrer stories before i go cutting up a $400 track... please tell me what your think. Thank you

why would you cut a new track? as long as you dont run studs, you'll be fine. i know guys running 1.75" on vipers with no studs after removing the protectors. it will rub but without studs your fine. if you wanna run that track and studs, get the drivers. if your stud happy, buy a new track that is shorter and stud it the normal route. ski

I'd change drivers and gearing, you'll probrably never have to do it again, and be able to run whatever you want (being reasonable) for track and studds in the future.

This is comming from someone who has been through it. You will have to run your track tight, it wears the slides faster. And you'll be wondering if you hit the exchanger instead of ridng care free.

I just put a Ripsaw in my '01 SXR. I took out the tunnel protectors and now I have plenty of clearance. I took off the seat and gas tank and drilled out the rivets from the top and the protectors fell right out. I didn't have to cut my brand new track and don't have any grind marks or chiseled off rivets in my tunnel.

I would like to cut the protectors down and put them back in even though I don't plan on studding. Seems they would still serve a purpose. Something to put on the list for next fall, I need to ride to make up for the wrenching time.

yea i planned on studding it... the track as is right now wont hit... because the guy who owned the sled before me took the tunnel protectors off, but when i stud it i want somthing to protect the tunnel from the studs, and i was told that if i cut the track down like 1/8 of an inch jsut where it would hit the protectors like 1.5 inchs wide on the track, this would still be safe, and not be exspensive like buying new drivers and gears

i think you are supposed to cut down the track and run shorter studs to match. if you use studs made for a 1.25" track and noch it for the protectors you WILL shred the tunnel! i have seen a few sets of 8 tooth drivers on here for under $50 and that will fix all your problems. regearing isnt really necessary for trail riding, but if you want to do it you can get them cheap as long as you dont have reverse.

Nick I ride VT too and I just put on a 1-1/4 iceripper. Don't skimp on the drivers, they are a must for these tracks. You have to run your track way too tight otherwise. I'm putting 8 tooth anti ratchets on, if the iceripper doesn't hook up I can still stud it.

I had a predator track on my old sled that hit the tunnel protectors and i had to notch it too, time consuming but worked great.
