I know alot of people say the stock canister is better than any aftermarket one, but I was wondering if anyone has heard an Slp can. and how it sounds or performs. Also, i'm getting a good deal on the can, so if it takes weight away wouldn't that make up for the supposedly "lost" horespower? Thanks Again! Eric

In my honest opinion you are better to put the money in something else.
Big gains on the Viper with the right clutch set up, transfer rods, or track.
Dont waste your money.

$80 is an ok price but you can spend the $80 on clutching and notice performance gains and not just a sound diference with possible performance losses.
It is your choice but you can get your clutch parts for around that same price.

alright thanks alot, what clutching set-up do you suggest on a stock viper with v-force 3 reeds. i would prefer to start in the secondary clutch.I weigh 150 lbs if that matters. Eric

At $80 you won't get hurt. You could always resell it for that. Give it a shot and figure it out for your self.

If anyone wnats a can let me know cause I taking It off. Its too loud now that iVe ridden with my uncles 01 srx stock can and im going back to that. Im sick of everyone gawking at me when I come into town and when i heard that it actually loses power its now a no brainer.

Interesting...I have a slp pipe in my garage that I've been playing with. Installed it...ran crappy, put the stock one back...just to find out that a plug fowled (1st time ever!). Now I can't make up my mind on if I should put it back on again...hmmmmm

I tried a SLP for about a week on my Viper a few years ago when I was in the UP(bought it there). Yes it was very quiet, almost stock sounding. It had less throttle response and got waxed bad by my Dad's Viper when I got home. I then took it off and sold it. I have tried a few others and they all lose power. Other than triples, it is hard to do anything to the Viper exhaust. I recently opened up a spare stock Viper silencer I had with a plasma cutter. There really is not anything you can do to mod it either. I believe it's all in the pipe (baffles) where the modding must be done if anything at all can be done. For a cheap mod try the TPI's in the airbox, they help a tid bit and are around $40-50.

Well, I bought the SLP canister. In my opinion it sounds great..I like the tone diffrence. I didn't notice a power loss, it might have gained for all that I know. The trails were softer when I had the old canister and alot harder now so it really is hard to tell. For $80 I figured it was worth a shot. The sled runs great with or without the can. Thanks guys. Eric

why not go for a complete triple pipe from slp?

It must be THE cheapest engine tuning out there in the snowmobile world!

33hp gain for only + - 800 bucks, is a bargain.. sounds GREAT too!

i`m almost suprised there are any stock vipers out there :D

my 2 cents..

Nope no pipes on the viper, tired of the headaches. A can I can switch in 5 minutes if I get a chance to go north. Paul

I really dont think you would loose any power with a (SLP CAN) . Other strait pipe designs you could lose a little hp, like the mbr cans.
Doesnt any one know of any dyno test on aftermarket cans ?

Headache?

I have`nt tried my viper with the stock pipe (bought the sled with slp`s on it), but my triple SLP`s does really not make my head hurt.. I don`t find them that loud at all..

And the sound of the triple roar... mmmm :WayCool:

I installed the crazy thing again...and ...the top speed has decreased to about 135kms from about 150 with the stock silencer. (same temperature and same test location)

So I email SLP about it...and they say they've never heard of this problem. I'm sure I've read that damn near everyone who put the SLP on it lost some performance (true????reply please). SLP figured it's jetted too lean. I've got stock jets in it (146.3, 146.3&150)

Sounds great, mid range seems a bit stronger (but with track spin it's hard to tell). Top end it's not as quick.

Any suggestions????
Thanks,
Corey

Everyone says that you lose horses with the aftermarket can but i really did not notiice any at all. SOunded nasty (good) and had all kinds of throttle response. The only negative side would be that some of them are a bit too loud which makes it bad for the sport.
