I was told I would have to remove the front heat exchanger protectors and tunnel protectors on a 2002 viper to install an aftermarket ripsaw 1.25 track. Is this true?
Some just let the track wear, but yeah the preferred method is to remove the front protectors, or at least cut them down. You shouldn't have to mess with the tunnel protectors.

The 04 Viper S has no front heat exchanger protectors or tunnel protectors. I have heard of people tearing out the tunnel protectors if left in. I think the best bet is to remove both.

We did a friends of mine,take them out!
