do I wash the belts before or after 1st running
can I run my sled on a stand to break in the belts?
how long should I run a new belt to break in?
leaving for Snowies next tuesday(jan 17th) and want to have belts ready, last 2 years I blew belts everytime. geared from 1.81 to 2.16 now
and have different clutch set-up so I am hoping for the best?
just clean clutch with brake clean?

I wash my belts with mild soap and warm water prior to install. They have a film on them to keep them from drying out. If you do not wash it your clutch will get gummed up. I also take a scotch-brite pad to the sheaves. Sometimes I will spray brake-kleen to clean off any residue on sheaves.

I run 30kms easy on the throttle and not putting a large load on the belt to break it in. Seems to do just fine.

30 km ( miles?? ) that would be along time on the stand to break in 3 belts
I suppose it's possible to give a belt a bit of a break in on a stand but running it on the sled in trail conditions for about 25-30 miles would be the normal way to do it(imo).Also do like was said by washing the belts off prior to use and clean the sheaves,;this seems to be the M.O. of most everyone I have ever asked and it seems to work for me.What type of belts are they?Dayco/Carlisle,Yamaha or Gates?

When I was refering to breaking in the new belt with 30kms that is by driving it on the trails or whatever, just not riding aggresively or fast for the break in period.
Iv never cleaned my belts off before putting them on, but probabally will next time, just to see what happens, but I dont hardy and crud on my sheaves or none at all besides maybe some clutch dust at the end of the year.

The washing makes a big difference. Without washing you may notice a light change in the color of sheaves almost a faint golden tan color. Hard to describe the color.

You guys are right, there is a release agent on them from the molding and cutting process. Grass dragers will wash them, run them lightly, and hang them up for future use. If you can't wash them, 25 miles of half throttle or less break in does the trick.
