Finally got my first ride of the season after making some changes to my Viper.
Removed electric start
Installed Expert X
Installed new 1.25" Ice Ripper track
Installed mbrp trail can
Trail conditions wer soft pack to some hard pack. Top speed was 94 on the speedo Rev at 8600.
What can my problem be. Could the can be causing this? How about the track rub on the front heat exchangers? Any ideas? What should I see?
Last year I saw 105 all stock. I would have thaught the new track and transfer of the Expert would improve things.

Track tension too tight? Track is heavier? Can causing loss of power? With the new rear end need to adjust clutch?
Sorry I can't tell you exactly but these are some questions I would have for the experts.

if you left the heat exchangers in you will need to cut some clearance from the lugs that bridge over the windows. they will rub and act like breaks.

Could be the partially due to track tightness. I went a little tighter than Expert specs since it is a new track and I knew it would be stretching a bit.
Where should I be running as far as rpm's? 8300-8600 right?
Betheviper, you most likely are correct on the track rub issue. I've heard some people say you can loose as much as 10 mph depending on how severe it is. I'll start working on the track issues.

Actually, the viper shouldn't run 1.25 lugs without changing drivers.
You can run the 1.25" without heat exchanger protectors , or clip the lug of the track where it contacts the protector. About an 1/8" or so is all it will take.

your rpms are fine shoot for 84-8600.
the new suspension and the taller lug track took your top speed away alittle. also, loose snow, warm temps probably had alot to do with the loss. wait for a colder day hard pack and re test bet you gain alittle back (but not much).
the taller lugs act like a larger fan blade and slow the speed down due to wind resistance against the air if you will.
the friction from the xpert may cause a small loss also. remember, you are comparing apples (last year viper) to oranges (this years set up) there is a learning curve. sometimes your mods make the sled faster, sometimes slower.
you'll need to do your homework and try to recoup the speed on the dreamometer. i personally dont care what the speedo say as they are totally inacurate to begin with. radar guns, gps, and who is first at the end of the race tell the tale of the tape. ski

Mind you I have a smaller displacement sled, 99 sx 600, but I lost about 10-15 mph off the speedo after upgrading to a 1.25 ripsaw. I was disappointed in top end performance, but love the traction coming out of a corner.

Wow, this is the first I've heard of any top end loss related to a 1.25" track upgrade. Kind of wish I new this before. I would have thought the traction improvement alone would actually help increase speed. Looks like, with the transfer I get with the Expert, I could have stayed with the 1".

sounds like alot
thats alot of top-end loss i think you have other issues

Well I run a 1.25" predator. Sure there was top end loss as expected, but my holeshot and overall traction is SO much better. On a long lake run with the stock track I used to see over 120mph on the speedo, now I only have seen around 113-115 with this track. I have never run an Expert-X but I can attest to a big performance loss when I tried a MBRP silencer. For the heck of it try your stock silencer and see what happens. It only takes a few minutes to change. Seriously mine lost big power when I installed one comparing it to a constant Viper on the drag strip.

guys, that track is not making you loose that much mph. it is draging on your guards, it happens to everyone that installs a track with full blocks over the clips in a yamaha.
cut your track and run the track as loose as you can without it ratcheting. then go out on a lake and start making speed runs. tighten the track up untill speed starts to fall off.
