i am looking to build a fast machine for my needs its just something i enjoy doing but anyways i am new to new yamahas so dont know much about the diferances looking at building a 700 but what is the differances in the vipers, venoms and srx's like i said i am new so forgive me for any dumb sounding questions please help me to shed some light on this thanks

viper is a 700 power valver single pipe long travel, srx is a 700 or 600 power valve tripple pipe with short rtavel suspention and the venom is a 600 non power valve single pipe long travel suspention.

the fastest of the three stock would be the SRX.
They can all be made faster but the SRX is already ahead of the others you mentioned for speed. I have seen a couple of SRX with some clutching and a few other tricks run about 123mph in a radar run.

so i am asuming the srx's are a bit faster with the same motor but 3 pipes is the front suspension the same on the 700's as far as the power vaves go what are they and how do they work i am used to working on older sleds the newest sled ive worked on is a 93 v-max 4 it dont have powervalves
thanks big 4

I OWN THREE SRX 700s ONE VIPER 700 AND ONE VENOM 600er. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A HOT ROD SRX IS THE WAY TO GO 2000 AND UP THAY CORNER AWESOME AND HAVE ALL THE POWER NO ENGINE MODS NEEDED. IF U PLAN ON GOING ON LONGER RIDES I WOULD RECOMEND THE VIPER IT HAS A BETTER SUSPENSION WITH MORE TRAVEL,IT HAS GOOD POWER BUT WHEN YOU HIT THE GAS IT DOSENT PUT THE SAME SMILE ON YOUR FACE AS THE SRX. THE VENOM IS A GOOD THROW AWAY MACHAINE WHEN DONE WITH IT. GOOD FOR GENERAL RIDING BUT I WOULD NOT WAST MONEY TRYING TO MAKE IT FASTER. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION HOP THIS HELPS.

ok i have been doing some looking into this and i see that the 2002 viper takes the same crankcase so here is what i am thinking of doing takeing a 02 viper bulkhead putting a 136 skid under it and using a srx drivetrain i know the crankcases are the same so thats no problem but that is as far as i went it will be a summer project i just want to get a jump on the parts before season ends your guys input on my plans are welcome if something wont fit let me know but there is always a way to make it fit

SRX and Viper are two different motors.

what is the differance i checked my parts list and they list the viper and srx crankcase as the same part number i will do some checking on other parts of the motor and compare them and see what i come up with but thanks for the info

ok i did some more research and your right they are totaly differant engines but the crankcases are the same so i think i can make the srx engine fit i will look some more

Exactly. There are some parts that interchange but for the most part the engines are different. I think you may be right about the crankcases. I think there was a topic on this a while back. Do a little searching and I bet you'll find it. ;)!

They are not totally different engine's. The viper motor is an srx motor with som updates and modifed to run on single pipe. Ie, more aggressive porting, more agressive timing advance(in the cdi can still use the newer srx one), lighter crank. Members here have taken viper motors(whole motor) and put srx heads, pipes and cdi on them.

From what i have heard, bottome end similar enough to be interchangeable in the 2000+, cylinders are intercahgeable, heads can be with the pipe matchup.

Please think this is yamaha we are talking about why change something that works, they made some motors with only minor changes for many years(ie et340 motor turned into the 410). Also much of the technology they use in the 4 strokes is based out of their marine and motorcycle market.
