Me and 7 of my friends are heading to au train this weekend but reports are sounding grim. What has everyone else heard about this? I don't want to drive 470 miles one way for crap conditions.

that weather is for Gwinn, HUGE differance. That is the same as the forcast for Negaunee.... "observed at Gwinn Michigan"... I think Munising has a bit more snow than Gwinn or us. I am in Negaunee. Trails between here and Big Bay were OK, but by the end of the weekend really beat. Not enough snow to handle the traffic. No first hand knowledge of Munising tho...

just talked to a buddy last night , he was up in the up all week , he said trails have a really hard base and things a pretty slick in the corners , he said plenty of base but it is hard and slick , good thing is , the trails dont get whooped out, but you better have good carbides ...

My wife an I rode from gwinn to autrain saturday. Trails were actually in decent shape.

We also rode the trail from gwinn to Arnold on sunday. Fresh groomed but not to many people ever ride that way, they think theres not much snow down there but the trails that way were beautiful, just a lil slick coming out of a few corners.

A little further east than Munising, but I talked to the owner of Hilltop Cabins in Grand Marais yesterday... he said the same thing... base is hard and a little thin/slick in places but nice and smooth. He told me many of the trails are so smooth you'd think you were riding down the highway. This is for the Grand Marais/Seeney area though... South of Seeney is pretty much unridable. We are headed to G.M. this weekend...

you couldn't pay me to go to the UP this weekend.

1) crapy snow
2) MLK weekend - this means that every autoworker and gov't employee is on a three day weekend.
3) icy corners
4) no snow in any other state means everybody is headed there.

Went up there 2 year ago on this same weekend with the same condition, what a goat rodeo.

anybody headed up there please be extra careful, tons of idiots and low snow = lots of accidents.

I would fall into the auto worker category. I am enjoying a 3 week layoff right now with 95 % of my pay. I go to work for 1 week at the end of the month then I am off again for 3 more weeks. Warren Truck assembly plant for chrysler.

Enjoy it while you can, cash cow is going to the sloughter house soon!
Can you say MADE IN CHINA? Gee.. I wonder why vehicles are so high priced, and auto makers are hurting? M2C

While I'm not an auto worker or UAW member, they are the reason I have Monday off. Gotta ride when you can... and I'm usually not in a hurry just out to have fun.

It is raining in Negaunee right now... I am sure Munising is very similar :( My sleds are going back in storage and the jeep is coming back out...

yeah this weather is so damn depressing. The next couple of weeks looks to be the same garbage with maybe a couple of cold days w/snow, but mostly wet and mild :o|

I think I'm going to stop thinking about riding and act as if it's April!
