I need some opinions. Not impressed enough to give up my srx's for the new stuff yet and one is over 10'000 so i am going to rebuild before something bad happens. I have used prolite pistons before and liked them but am wondering if they will give me as many miles as stock will.
p.s. turk you are a man of steel. If that was my rx-1 turbo i think i would have been sick right there on the spot.

Hey SpartaSXr do you mean ceramic coat the pistons? I never heard of powder coating them, only other parts for looks, LIke I did with my carb covers and brackets
Brian, if I were you, instead of just doing a rebuild I would get the cylinders bored out and then re Nickasiled it will be all perfectly matched and you will gain a few HP also.

Yes ceramic coat them. The cylinders can be re-nicknisaled for around $ 100.00 if they only need re-plating.

for about $300.00 per cylinder they do great work thier nicisal is better then factory.
Most other places are charging 135 to 150 for replating. for 300 they had better garentee them for the life of me. maxdlx

And for $270 you can buy brand spankin' new cylinders from Yamaha! These places that want $200 - $300 to replate them are crazy.

I know
I had a guy quote me 199.95 to replate sx cylinders, you can buy them new from Mtn Perf for 198.99. Makes no sense to me. maxdlx

Show me a re-nik job for $100 and I'll give him a hummer. I shopped around a long time to get a good price, but it sure wasn't $100. I got 7,400 miles on my '01 SRX by the end of last year, and the cylinders were absolutely perfect inside. A ring job was all that was needed. I have seen many ski doo and polaris cylinders w/alot less miles that showed signs of wear, but the yamaha triples seem to hold up good. I made mine into a big bore, (using the wiseco pistons of course) and got 1 1/2 months out of it (a little over 3,000 miles). The compression went to crap, and sounds clattery. I was anal about everything I did in that motor, and even though it did make more power and got 13-15 mpg running fast, I believe the stock pistons w/ new rings would have been fine and still running long after my wiseco's peedered out, and yes they were coated on the tops and skirts. I will be tearing it down this week to see what the whole scoup is. My advice is, if you are happy w/the performance and don't need to spend a lot for the extra hp, stay stock bore and stay away from the wiseco. (Will It Seize Every Couple Outings?)

Just a note to thank everybody for their input. I guess the overwhelming choice for pistons is stock.Talked to my dealer and he said he would be surprised if my cylinders were found to be out of spec. It would seem that the srx cylinders are extreamely durable. All comments are still welcome.
