Im sure all of this stuff has been talked about to death. But I am fairly new to this forum and I wanted to know what everyones opionion on this sort of stuff. Does it work or is it a waste of money? :o|

I don't know much about mods, but an aftermarket can will almost for sure cost you a few HP, although it will sound good and make the sled lighter. Reeds are supposedly good for 2or 3 HP, but there is probably better things to spend money on, like clutching or some traction aids.... not really sure, but I'm sure you'll get some better responses. Jeff

I have good traction and a clutch kit is on its way I was just wondering how to take it too the next level. I was told shaving the heads and adding 2 base gaskets is some good cheap horsepower.

Yes the poor man's porting helps.I wouldn't go with reeds unless you have a full port job or a big bore on the srx's.What kind of clutch kit do you have coming?

what do you have for miles on the sled. your stock reeds are going to start to break down around 3-4000 miles from what i have experienced.
If it is time to replace them i would recomend the boysen rad valves. i have been running them for 2 years now and love them.
otherwise if the reeds are fine then leave them alone. not a lot of gains to be had there without a big bore or other mods

I put boyesen reeds in my 94 vmax and it ran so rich it was burning my eyes. I put stock ones back in and it seems to run better. Clutching and traction like they is your best bet. You make tons of power but if you ain't puttin it to the ground it is no good. Hook and book

I have 5000miles on my sled but the reeds have been recently replaced with new stock ones last year according to the yamaha dealer that I bought it off of. I am trying to focus on the best way to realisticly make my sled faster in a 660ft or a 1000ft race while still keeping it a dependable trail sled. And I am a married with children so I cant break the bank either (or I wont be married for very long LOL). I just bought 48 more studs today and I will put them in tomorrow. Now I have a total of 192 -1.075 studs in a 1 inch camo-predator track with adjustable weight transfer rods, and I should have the clutch kit installed within a week or so. I figure my next "best bang for the buck" is the poor man port job, but Im concerned that I might risk some dependability. If you guys think It is a risky mod let me know and I will pass on it.

Does anyone know what the best gearing to run in a 1000ft race would be and what top speed I should top out with it on radar (on ice)?

Try a dual angle helix. Maybe a 53/41 or 53/44. Turk is the clutch master. There is also alot about clutching in the tech pages.

sandmanmike. i suggested rad valves not reeds.
i have no experience with boysen reeds but can tell you the rad valves worked great!!
