After tinkering with my 99 SRX 700 for awhile today (dropping the mains one size due to the extremely mild weather) I decided to take it for a little ride tonight. Also earlier on in the day I pulled apart my oil pump cable to check the settings. Using a standard ruler to measure the gap, I found the gap to be approximately 20-21mm. I run Klotz oil. When I was riding tonight I got out onto a lake and pinned the throttle. It would only go half way to the bar...I immediately knew what the problem was. After replacing the rubber covers over the oil pump cable, somehow the top rubber piece had slid up, causing the oil pump cable to be stuck, thus only allowing for half throttle usage. If I hadn't have caught the problem in time, could that have had ill effects?
Also, could only get the sled to run 90mph on the speedo on the lakes (probably 4-6 inches of snow). The sled has Heavy Hitter clutching with Maxx Perf purple primary and a 54/46 Dalton helix. Also have the heads shaved 30 thous and 3 base gaskets total. It was overrevving a bit, 8600, so I'm gonna throw a bit more weight in them tomorrow. I've got the tip pretty well loaded, should I put the washers in the mid hole instead? Carbs, clutches, and powervalves are clean. Sled seems to run about the same speeds at 3/4 throttle as it does WOT. Can anyone give me any advice steering me in the right direction. I don't think I'm too far away from where I need to be (with the exception of the rpms), but an SRX should pull more than 90mph across lakes....after all, isn't that their specialty?

souldnt be a problem. more oil is better then no oil. i dont see how it would cause any problems

That isn't necessarily the problem I'm referring to. Granted I figure I can lean the pump out a tad, I'm more concerned about the oil pump cable pulling apart and getting stuck, along with the slow top speed.

oh. if ur worroed about that i had that broble on my 500 just wrap it with a little electrical tape to keep it together. as for top speed i couldnt get my sxr wth triples over 95 on the lake the otehr day but i had a bad belt that blew my secondary the 4th or 5th WOT run i did. went down to far and grabed a ramp and sheared it off. as for the over reving id ad a little weight or try a new belt. ill always get a new belt at the beginging of the year. scarry sound when teh secondary goes goes. so many things go threw ur head. i thought i threw the track out teh back blew my motor or chaincase.

Pull the springs J, and check for binding in the clutches. Adding more weight might just make the whole things explode if it's bound up. Check the plugs too, make sure they're solid tops, big difference on the SRX. Good luck!

VMJ, I just replaced the secondary spring with a new one, so that isn't the issue. Pulled the primary apart tonight took the spring out, not sure how to tell if it was binding or not. Soap and water to clean the internal guts of the primary, followed by compressed air to blow out the remaining belt dust? In either case, I've got a brand new one I might as well throw in there. The plugs are solid tops, been down that road with the screw off caps. Major pain.
