I need to change the cast bulk head, not the whole bulkhead! Any pointers on how to do it. Someone told me they did it in a day but they did not say how. It looks pretty involved to change. And i do not have a manual wich might not help anyway.Any one guess how many hours to change?? Im just trying to figure out if i should try to wait til spring to try and change it.
Thanks, brad

cast piece of the bulkhead replacement
I did mine on the 98 SRX I had a few years ago. I thought it was a piece of cake. It's just alot of dis-assembly. Then re-assembly. I had to replace all the front pieces, trailing arms, radius rods, tie rods, pretty much everything but the shocks, so I had to take off both sides of the bellypan also. Maybe you could get away with not taking off the sides, I'm not sure. Anyway just drill the rivots, slide it out the front, and put new rivots in. You will have to have an air rivot gun, those babies are hard to pull. With an air rivoter you can do them in just a few minutes. I'm trying to remember back, but I think you might need to install the inner radus rod bolts before you put the center section of the bellypan on, or something like that. It's been a while. Just make sure you have everything ready for install before you get too carried away. One more thing. Punch out the centers of the rivots before you try to drill them, it will go much easier. All in all it's not that bad of a job. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

hmmmm I was looking on microfiche and the dont list that part seperatly on a 98 i wonder if it is the same or done the same way? Well luckily i do have an air riveter.
I just did that bulkhead on my 2001 srx. I actually replaced it with a Viper bulkhead because I converted all of my suspension from a 2004 Viper to my 2001 srx. As for the time it took to replace it (and i've never done that before) i would say about a 4-5 hour job its really not that bad if you take your time and watch what your doing. I used a air hammer on the rivets to remove and a manual one to replace. You really dont have to remove the belly pan sides just the middle part. Also there are rivets hidden behind the steering arm boots that that hold the bulkhead on. Just remove the front half of the boot rivets and bent the boot out and you will see them. I know the procedure looks a little scary but if you are used to working on sleds its really not that difficult.
