Hey, I just read that you can add base gaskets and shave heads to gain some hp just wondering if you can just add the base gaskets and not shave the heads and if this will still give you more power and if it is safe or will make it less reliable? how many gaskets do you add? can you run it on pump gas (premium 91)? what does it do? etc. any feedback would be great guys.

no, you cant just add the gaskets and not do the heads. you are basicly porting the engine by raising the cylinders, this lowers the compression so thats why the heads have to be cut, the bad thing about doing this mod is your adding extra deck clearance. Its cheap and it does work only on the 98-99 sleds. Getting your cylinders trail ported and then heads cut is a better route, more power, but its not cheap like this is.

Mrviper, how much is trail porting and having the heads cut?
How much is the difference in power over a stock 98 srx7?
Does it effect dependability?
Do you have to run 91 octane? I always run prem in my sleds, but sometimes when we head north you can only get 87 oc.
Sorry snowrules for jackin your thread.

I had the heads cut and added 2 additional base gaskets to my 99 SRX. I didn't feel a "seat of the pants" difference, but then again I did it over the summer and didn't have the stock heads to compare it to during the winter after I did the mod. I'm more than likely going to go with a port job for next year, as it's supposed to be very reliable, give up to 15hp gains, increase mileage and efficiency, and cost right around $400 or less.
