My friends 99 SRX had the headlight comming on and off as we rode Saturday. I was assuming that his harness had wore through and causing his headlight to work sometime and to be off sometimes. By the end of the day the ignition would tend to shut down for less than a second as his sled never did stop running.
We pulled his harness out as far as we could without taking out the pipes and tearing the sled apart. This is all after we summerized his sled.
So finally here is my question....... Does everyone feel that we have solved his problem by re-taping all the wires that were worn and melted together???

tod did your harness wear right by the front primary clutch..?the harness comes from underneith up the side of the bulkhead and then down into the plastic bulkhead going up to the hood for the lights etc,,,

Yes, I would say that is where it was at. We pulled as much of his harness out without tearing apart the sled. Found some worn wires and some were melted together due to the high resitance.
Seaperated all the wires, retaped them and then taped them all back together with a boat load of tape.

Tod,
I had the same thing happen to my 99 SRX and once I tapped them up as you had the sled was back on the trail.

Good, thats what we wanted to hear. I figured that was the situation, because I have read about it on TY.COM several times before but just wanted to confirm it.
We summerized his sled before tearing into it incase we ran into bigger issues so it will not get tested untill december of 2004.

I had the same thing happening to my 98 srx7. I was getting flashed temp light 7 times within 5 secs.-- servo flash code.
I pulled out the harness that runs under the motor and no rub through.
Removed all the tape just to be sure and re-taped.
I happened to find out where the problem was just by following all my wires around the whole sled (two and a half hrs later).
I had a wire rubbed through right above the left footwell.
Red wire coming out of the cdi was broke right off. Fixed and no more flashes!!

the temp light comes after a few miles of riding. then it stays on until I run at a slower speed for a few minutes. I know this sounds like overheating but when I look things over the motor does not seem hot at all. so I do not think this is flashing a code.

if this is a 600 sx then it could be a ECU failure...according to the diagnositcs, if it was a water temp it would flash every .25 sec continuous and if it was a water temp sensor then it would .75 sec light and then .25 sec lights 3 times on a row then repeat....
