What a busy night! got a few things done on the sled though...pics

Got the GPS installed, 12v 8 ah battery installed and wired, power point installed, new windshield installed.... and managed to put my clutch back together too...

You have no idea how hard it was to get myself to drill HOLES in my sled!! I was sweating bullets! Turned out pretty good though.

I'm thinking of mounting my magellan gps in a pretty similar fashion. Beats having it in my pocket and not even seeing it until you stop. Did you use a RAM mount?

No. I just couldnt' stomach the cost of a ram mount. I found a mount online somewhere (dont' remember, sorry) for less than half the cost of a ram. It's probably not as robust as a ram mount, but what is? I think this will work out just fine.

I question how well the GPS will stand the operating extreams? I would think the cold and the shock would tear it up? Garmen ratings down to +5F Magellen ratings down to +14F?

Well, this season I'm not too worried about the +5 degrees!! As for the shock... I've had this in my boat for many seasons... 24' boat in 3-4 footers will rock any electronics! Still works fine.

I would think the temps right inside the windshield like that should be a bit higher than ambiant. I sure hope that works cause that is exactly what I had in mind. your right about the +5 this season.... is it mud resistant....

Mud resistant! LOL!! Well, it is a marine unit.... so....

Hey, I have family in St. Albans, VT.... is there snow up that way? I may just have to drag my sled out there to ride it!! I have a 365 day a year open invite to come visit... I usually go in the summer to fish and such... but... you know... sledding withdrawls are starting to hit!!

I picked up my ram mount today. I had a gift card to Gander Mountain and I have a ram mount in my car and I like it so much better than the magellan mount. I plan on mounting it similar to your's now that I've seen your photos. What did you connect your power adapter to? I'm debating about running just off recharge-ables and having a pocket heater behing the unit inside the mount to keep it warm.

I'm simply running a small 12volt, 8 amp hour battery I made a bracket for on the throttle side, above your toe... below the brake assembly.... riveted in place. I then ran the power wire forward (avoiding the exhaust!), up the hood with the existing wires, and to a power point (you can get one of these at walmart, but I get them at work because I can!). Pluged the Garmin car adapter cable into it and I"m good to go.
