Hey, I've been doing some looking around at some phazer pipes and trying to get educated a bit... Do you guys have advice on the better pipes and what are disadvantages to pipes (if any). I found this chart on this site http://www.aaenperformance.com/Yamaha.asp and it shows 4 different pipes that are the same price... and the ''race'' pipe is 20hp... I don't understand how it can be the same price... anyways any information or advice is appreciated.
Thanks

Well first of all, there are three pipes for your sled, there is one for the newer model phazers, like mine. Then the other three differ mostly in baffles, and I do belive the torquer might have a different shape, but is most likely just a difference in baffles. This theory is going back to two stroke ATV and dirtbike pipes which generally use a larger volume for more torque, or more back pressure, and greater flow.

The differences here that are key is the race pipe is designed so the power will be only at top rpm, so all through the power band you will have nothing, then wham, all your power comes on, so that isnt the best for trails, but the other two are.

Was looking into these pipes for a really long time now, but got swayed from them by the work involved and all the bad things pipes created such as possible loss of reliability and gas milegae and lack in performance if not dialed in. I would rather be riding than always tuning the sled. Also, was goign to put a pipe in it for the heck of it this year but changed my mind witht he oppritunity to dump a 700 in my sled for next spring. BIG JOB....

The 11060 aaen works best for high altitude on the phaser. Have had several phasers and have used that pipe on all. However by todays standers, they are somewhat louder.
Aaen brand is the best fit for phaser. PSI for the exciter.

So what's the main differences between the torquer and the CAN? And does anyone know what kind of labor would be involved? Do pipes affect the performance in warmer weathers? I've had my phazer running this year in like -2°C weather. Thanks for the info guys

Aaen/Bender are problably the best all around. For trail use get the torquer, I have a Bender on mine and am pretty sure it's the same one as the aaen torquer. You don't need a lot of fiddling to get it to work good. Bender recommended a yellow-orange primary spring, and of course change your jetting. Also check the tech pages for the primary nozzle upgrade since the phazers are lean in the midrange w/ the butterfly carbs. 12-15 hp increase is a lot for a fan cooled sled, it will feel completely different. You'll need alot more traction too since the stock track looks like a slick...

Yah thats what I was thinking Fardoche... Probably wait until summer to do anything cause that's what I was thinking in the first place. The track on there won't be any good for that much more power. Right now it's even ify on certain snow for traction. Don't think I need that much power this winter since it's my first winter riding... I was thinking next year i'll want some new power though.
Thanks I'll look into it more in the summer,

The DG pipe is real nice not to loud and fits good. it is identical to the psi pipe which made the best all round power on Dynotechs phazer pipe shootout. peak power is made at 7250 rpm

We have three Phazers and the one we bought last year has what I belive is a DG pipe. The difference in power is substantial over stock all through the powerband. It has a 136" x 1" track on it and goes like a bat outta hell. We also have a stock short track that is quick in its own right and that extra power on the short track would be useless. Definitely upgrade the track.

How do you like the Apex? I don't know much about them but they look real nice.

I run the Aaen pipe on my 92 ST Phazer I don't find it too loud it is louder then stock, the performance is very good compared to the stock pipe, you will love the difference, I am putting my Venture track 3/4 lug on my Phazer and I am buying an Ice Ripper for my Venture 1 1/4 with built in studs good luck with the Phazer

Yes I have the stock track on it right now it's worn down alot but it also has over 10,000 kms on it, I will be swapping tracks this summer, last winter I added RYDE FX shocks in the back and they made the world of difference.....That APEX is beautiful>>>>

The Aaen can pipe was the best along with the PSI twins. The PSI twins were better for extra rpm which they run 7600-7800 and will make the machine faster due to the added rpm's. The Aaen can pipe made the best power at 7250 and 7500 with porting. The PSI single doesn't work as good as the Aaen, but better than stock no doubt. The DG pipe isnt the same as the PSI pipe. As far as pipes go the Bender can pipe is supposed to be identical to the Aaen can pipe...those are the closest pipes as far as design.

Anyone know what the mod is for the midrange problem??? Bigger or different needle jets? If so what is the part number? I have also heard of running 100 pilot jets to solve the problem?

GPX You are right.. I stand corrected! The aaen can did outperform the psi single buy a couple of Hp. With that being said, any of the pipes that are available were a big improvement over stock 8-13hp. You really can't go wrong!
But you are incorrect about the DG/PSIsingle pipes not being the same according to DynoTech vol.4 #1 page 5.

They dont look the same, they may perform the same.

PSI made twin pipes for the phazer, am I understanding that correctly??

Must have made a ton of hp with twins on. I looked everywhere for pictures of some but couldnt find any and they dont seem to be making them anymore. Anyone got some pics?

Also, is it true that the AAEN pipe does perform almost as good as the PSI twins?

Hey Yamahammer,
Nice ta see you on here as well!
I recognized your name from SW.com, and then I knew it was you when I saw the sled!

Your going to love this site, and there are tons of secrets out there for the phazer, like little things you can do to improve your sled, it is awsome!

Thinking about it, and it is probabally most likely that if PSI did make twins for the phazer, it would most likely be the older types and not mine. But the idea of twins is awsome!! Wish someone could make twins for my sled..., im going to keep looking.
