Iv'e finished my long travel install with Viper re-valved shocks. I bought a generic spanner wrench, but it is way to fat to even work. I had to loosen the track and transfer rods to allow me to turn the rear spring with my hands. I still need to crank the front spring up some and a little more on the rear, but I am having a really hard time turning it know it's preloaded. I'll never be able to make an adjustment on the trail, so how do the veterans here make adjustments on the trail??? That front spring is really tucked up in there.

honestly, I make spring adjustments at home, ina heated garage on a lift lol! I try and do only ski springs, transfer rods, and MAYBE the FRA on the trail. other stuff at home heated.

Check out Maxximum Performance site, they have a quick adjuster that is supposed to be easy to make trail side adjustments, but i have not heard anybody on this site that has one...........James

I remove shock. I have done it trail side also. Just stuck a log under rear grab bar a 14 mm and 14 mm deep well socket. screwdriver and large jaw channel locks.

I think I figured out why I'm strugging so hard. I put the shocks in just like they came out. I did some searching on the internet and I think the shocks are in upside down. Does the middle shock have the adjustment nut on the bottom and the rear shock in the rear???

Your preload adjusters should be at the top of the skid so that the end that bolt onto the fra bracket has the spring retainer. It is a big pain in the pills to adjust at the best of times which is why I ordered a quick preload adjuster ring from Rich at Rich motorsports.Hopefully it will help,I haven't had the oportunity to use it yet with the weather the way it is!!!!!!!!!!

for doing them in the shop, use a strut spring compressor to compress the spring, then you can dial them down by hand to wherever they need to be.

i just remove the rear shock, quick and easy.

once you do it a couple times it takes only a few minutes.

the quick adjusters do work good, make sure you use some grease that water wont wash out.
center shock i leave the spanners a little loose, cary a ohlins spanner wrench to snug up when done.

for your strap adjustment go buy a gear wrench and cut it off at 3in, round the end over. this lets you adjust the limiters with ease.

good call betheviper. I have some of th ecraftsman ratchet wrench things (cant think what they are really called) that work great on the limiter straps. actually bought the set so I could have the one wrench for just that purpose lol!
