89 srv no spark or head light

hi all new here.. do not know if i should post here or all yamaha thread sio i did both

have a 89 srv there is no spark or head light when it is pulled over.. the outer coil (plug wire coil ) has been replaced.. is there a lighting coil and a exciter coil in the older yamaha`s ? does the exciter coil produce all spark ? do i need to pull the motor to get the fly wheel off? or is there enogh room to get a fly wheel puller in there between the frame thanks for any tips and suggestions

yes, the internal coil is bad, pretty common on the old sleds, take off the flywheel and replace the exciter coil, check the other coils and see if they are good while you are there.

do i have to pull the fly whell off with a puller ? or does it come off by taking the 8 bolts off of the brackets that are attached to the fly wheel by allen bolts

ya, you need a puller, go to harbor freight and buy a steering wheel puller kit, works great.
