I think I remember seeing something on this a while back... maybe a long while... but can coolant leak through the top of the head? I've noticed a drop of coolant on top of the head, right where the 8DN is cast. About one drop, no runs, and no other signs of external leaks. If I remember right there was a drop on there when I got this thing out of storage from the summer and then again after it was ridden between Christmas & New Years. It's the center cylinder and the plug on this cylinder has an "off" color to it while the other two are nice & brown. Is this possible? Could it also be leaking coolant into the cylinder? And what would be the difference between coolant leaking at the head gasket vs. the base gasket? It does have 2 base gaskets on it because I bought a complete top end that had the heads shaved and needed the extra gasket to give me good squish (.042 with only one gasket). It's an '01 and I've probably put a couple thousand miles on it with the double base gasket. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

i got ..or well had that problam with mine, coolent would start to run from the head bolts. i think thats because the bolts came somewhat loose, and needs to be re-torqed down. i dont think its much of a problam really. if its not that... then well all i got to say is keep en eye in your Coolent level! hahah
Mine drips once in a while to. It looks like a pin hole in the cast right by the numbers cast into the head. I'm not sure whats going on.

Ask Skidooboy about this, I think he might have some insight....

some of the srx had pinholes in the the castings. they did "weep" alittle coolant. i heard one fix was to hit it with a brass flat punch to "pinch" the casting into not leaking. i opted to wipe it off after each ride and not hit anything with a hammer. ski

LOL I think I like that option a little better to, Ski!!! What about the coolant possibly getting into the cylinder? What color will the plug change? Haven't had a chance to look at the top of the piston or the wash yet but the plug is definatley a different color than the others (an off color brown w/ maybe a tinge of green???). I'm a little concerned about that double base gasket and whether it's sealing up like it should...
Thanks guys!

the coolant is coming from the water passages in the head not from the combustion chamber so the head weeping isnt causing the plug issue. if the plug is new it will look "funny" for awhile. the base gasket sealing i know nothing about. keep an eye on the cyl, plug, and coolant level. ski
