i just bought a 98 srx 600. i know that the crank in these had a problem. i called a couple of dealers and they didn't want to help me. i got a hold of yamaha corp to ask them about the problem. they looked up the vin # and said there has never been anthing done to the sleds crank. he also said there wasn't a recall on the crank. i don't know where to go with it from here. if annyone has an idea please let me know. thanks.
Never had a problem with my '98 600. Haven't heard of any 600's with the crank issue, only '98 700's, and the issue presented itself within the first year of riding. Somebody else might be able to add more details, I believe excessive vibration would point to a possible crank issue.

Yours may not ever break but all '98 SRX's 600 and 700 are considered defective. Excessive vibration is one sign of bad crank.
98 700s had the most problems,
