My buddy's got a 1998 SRX700, and the cluthes just eat belts like there's no tomorow. Now, we're going riding this weekend, and I was wondering if there is something we can do to fix this.
We already put the alignment tool to them, and the alignment says its fine, but obviously something isnt ok.
Also, what is a good setup for this sled, stock. All he wants is a lil more bottom end pull and a lil higher engagement.

Did you check both the offset and the center to center? Using good belts? Both clutches in good shape? Add two or three primary clutch shims behind the spring to bring up the engagement a little. It might be to his liking. You can use up a good belt in a hurry if you run a lot of deep wet snow.

check all bushings, spacers, rollers. Make sure nothing is binding. Check the springs to see if they are broken or sacked. Give them a good cleaning with hot soapy water.

Are you using the right tools to check your alignment? Not all Yamahas have the same specs. What kind of wear does the belt show? One side only? Underneath? On top? Is the belt fraying or is it delaminating? With the belt off and laying as if it were on the clutches, does it look like it has a twist in it? What kind of riding conditions? Are you seasoning the belts before riding them hard?

Are the belts getting hot? Just for information...have put over 2,000 miles on a belt in my SRX and is still usable. Must be something out of wack there some where.
