Just removed the transfer rods from my 04 Vipe SX 121".

Can I get away with this??? Hoping for some better weight transfer.

I posted previously on this issue---me being a light weight at 165.

No possible way of the pivot arm going back past center---so.

How and what so those transfer rods do when they couple that rear suspension???

Going sledding Saturday----will wait for replies and Thanks in advance!!

Vipe----This!!!

I tried it and the track ratcheting was out of control, and I have extroverts. I tried letting out the limiter straps, tightening the preload on the shocks, couldn't completly eliminate track ratcheting. Way too much ski lift too. On top of that, it must look funny going down the trail pulling fake wheelies lol. It just plained sucked.

Why were you getting so much ratcheting??/ That shouldn't bother your track tension like that. With this tall Ohlin front end and the deep rear you just can't get transfer. I will let you know how it goes here this weekend. The 02 is way different than the 04 from what I have been told.

the track acts like a parallelogram. ( leaned over rectangle)

the transfer rods let you distort that shape within limits to get weight transfer, but excessive distortion will put excessive load on the suspension components, ( specifically the front "W" arm) because the track is a fixed length. yami says 10mm max on either side of the transfer rod.

When you get that kit does that mean you still remove the rods??? And will it work on the 121" track???

Trying that kit, it's coming ups tomarrow and putting it on a 02 w/144" should be interesting!!!!!!!!! First have to replace a melted piston and cylinder.

the tranfer kit is 2 straps that replace the transfer rods ,it fits on a 121". I put the transfer kit on my mountain viper and now she wheelies like my buddys firecat

How do those straps keep it from squatting??? OR does it keep it from squatting??? I guess I should just order it and be done. Thanks guys!!

Can you send me a pic of how it looks on your sled???

Thanks

The straps just keep the pivot arm from flipping over, that's all. Some people report running without the straps and never having a problem. But if you're gonna remove the transfer rods I'd recommend adding one or two straps (or you can just get the kit mentioned above).

Without the transfer rods, the rear shock will compress and the center shock will stay extended, this means that yes the skis will be in the air but the front of the track will still be touching the ground. If you ask me that's not a wheelie and it looks kinda silly (just my opinion), an old Formula 380 can do this. A real wheelie is when the sled stands up on the rear idler wheels (showing it has power and traction). Someone recently posted a video of doing a wheelie and I believe he said he had the transfer rods set in the middle.

You mean going with the transfer kit from mountain will make it hard on that W arm???

I think I will just do some fine cutting on the sleeve where the rod slides through and try to get the 10-12mm that they want and hope for the best.

I already ordered the transfer kit. Probably a bad idea.
