Well as the title says I would like to put a viper seat on a srx. I have purchased the seat minus taillight and it is on its way. I purchased it because I have read the viper seat is a better seat and for the fact that the rear storage flap buckles down. The thing I do not know is what is the difference between the wiring. Also I need a taillight and pigtail. Is there anything I am missing???

Hey, I have this setup on my SRX and the seat is 2.2 pounds lighter then then srx seat. It is not as soft but I think it looks better aswell. If you can, you are going to want to get a viper gas tank aswell so it doesn't look as tacky. As for the wiring, the connectors are different so you must take the old connector off your srx seat and put it on the viper seat. Hope this helps

Nothing, the rear flap does not clip down because the 98's just had velcro. In the last couple of years I have lost too many thing out of the rear copartment!

Hey jwiedmayer, have any photos of the sled with the new seat. I've considered this as well but wondered what it looked like at the tank.
Thanks, Greg
BTW how "the panther" doing?

the tank is different because the Viper doesn't have the 2 screws with the little bungie cord, just makes it look complete, also if you want to make it totally complete you need the rear bumper and the bumper cover

Seat
I put an aftermarket cover on mine. I have to remove some of the foam padding that used to be where the trunk of the sx seat was. You can also notice the reflective black sticker on the tunnel lighting up on the flash. My tunnel has quite a few holes in it from the other suspension and a screw up of mine. Therefore its go 3m reflective film on the side. That's why its not polished.

you really need the rear cover and bumper, i think i have a spare, 35 for both if i have them.
also the srx rear flap has a repair kit that you can use to add the latches to the older seats, its like ten bucks.
be prepared for a crappy ride. most of the viper ride problem is in the lack of soft foam in the seat. it is easier to move around on a viper seat but more painful to ride on it

Thanks BTV I will probably be looking for that bumper towards summer when I polish the tunnel and long travel it, but for now I am still in need of a taillight and wiring. Thanks.

jwied: I noticed your tail light is upside down on the viper seat. Is that on purpose or accident?
Thanks for posting the pics. I like the look

yamaholic22- Its the tailight from an R1 motorcycle. I needed the whole harness and I found one on ebay.. I did not even notice that the shape was that much different until you pointed it out. I'm pretty sure it can only go on one way but now I have to go look!

bumper
BETHEVIPER I got the cover but there it needs the bumper also. Are you sure the bumper fits the sx tunnel and cooler? It looks like the viper bumper is mounted to the inside of the tunnel and the sx mounts to the outside. J

I recently installed a viper rear cover and bumper on my srx and it was a little difficult but I got it done. For the bumper to fit on the SRX, I used a punch to get me started in drilling the right spot. Then I worked up to a 1/2 drill bit. Then I got a grinding tool and started making the hole big enough for the bumper to fit in. I did this to both sides. Then the hard part. The viper bumper cover doesn't match up with the holes from the stock bumper cover so I basically had to make an educated guess where the holes were and drill them. The install probably took longer then it should have but now I have a polished rear bumper! Thanks 800!

I had one on a srx.If I remember correctly instead of the bumper bolting on the outsied the viper one you have to blodt on the inside so I cut a little square hole in back of my tunnel to make it fit.betheviper is right they look a lot better with a viper bumper cover then it cover's up the top of the tunel.

Jwiedmayer I noticed you said your tail light is from a R1. Did you have any problems installing or have any current problems? the only real difference I can see is the shape(oval vs rectangular) and the angle of the lense.
