Just got back from the first trip with my 01 SRX. Right before I left I put a new belt on the sled and it started to squeel a little, only at idle. After 300 miles the squeel is still there, a bit quieter, but still there. Any idea how to stop this?

clean your clutch surfaces with a scotchbrite pad with hot soapy water 1st. if it stiil squeals after lightly scuff the clutch faces with fine fine sandpaper. what kind of belt are you using?

my sled is doing this since i have it!! my clutch are well aligned, its not the problem

I am using the OEM belt, the old OEM belt did not make the noise. I cleaned the primary with a scotch bright and brake cleaner before putting the new belt on.

Remove your secondary. on the back there are 3 bolts. remove these bolts, remove one washer from the bolts, reinstall the bolts. Reinstall the clutch.

Also check out the "belt deflection 101" on the Tech Pages. This topic has been beaten to death, if you do a search youll find a ton of info.

Belt is too tight. Take the three 8mm bolts out of the back side of the secondary clutch, remove the shims from each bolt,re-install the bolts. If the shims have already been removed then replace the bolts. The ends of the bolt wears down making them ineffective.

A new belt rides high on the secondary (you want 1/8 above the sheave). If it's too high, your belt will squeal. The belt needs to drop down a bit into the secondary which in effect loosens the belt and should take care of the squeal.

Make sure theyre the right numbers if you didnt already check for this. Mine made the same exact noise, except this belt was so tight that the sled would still move, even at idle. Happened to me with a mistake Carlisle made in their books, got two new belts for free too!

My new belt squeeled all last season (the 800 or so miles that I did get on it). Anyway, I had a person who is well know in the area for setting up clutches (high ranked sled drag racer - snow, ice, grass, pavement). He drove the sled around a bit, took the clutches apart, cleaned everything, adjusted some items, and after all that, I still have a squeel at idle. He said it was no problem. Other than the annoying sound, sled runs great.

the belts actually have a spec on them just check the manual.when buying a belt i always measure them and buy the longset belt.your problem is the belt is short.use the center to center distance tool and realign the clutchs.adding or removeing the shims on the secoundary changes this distance.as for belts make sure you are running the right part number a oem belt is best 8dn .the belts come in different hardness compounds.you will have problems running a aftermarket belt stick with oem
