no lights?

I was out last night for my first ride of the year(finally got snow), on my 97 sx 700. Intermittantly through the ride, all my lights ( head lights, tail lights , gauges, everything )would flicker and go out, for about 30 sec. at a time and come back on. Makes for an interesting night ride! Has anyone else ever experienced this? I suspect a short somewhere. The engine never quit. Where do I start? Any sugestions?

I had the same problem 2 years ago and it was the wiring harness.
Tie a string to the harness and pull it out from under the motor (the string will allow you to pull it back under) check for rub though. Wrap each wire with black tape then tape the entire harness. You may want to add wire loom.
