This forum has the greatest info, I've ever seen. Any way, I have an 03 Viper, with only 1400 miles on it, MBRP trail can, and a 144 studs. It over heated this year, low snow conditions, and was leaking coolant, from a hole on the bottom side of the motor, under the water pump. It, was determined that the problem was a bad water pump seal, which I am still waiting for. My question is, I have heard this was a problem with the vipers, and the guy at the shop, stated there was not an up grade kit for the seals, so what do I do, replace water pumps seals, every 1400 miles, and why did Yamaha not do a recall, if they did, I never got one, and I've had this sled since new. Just a little frustrated, I've beed waiting three weeks. While the sleds there, I am also having a rear heat exchanger put in, hopefully that will help.

Water Pump Seal
I understand your frustration. I've had mine done twice in 4500 mi. Both times Yami covered it, but the first time around I was under warranty and the second time I had to call in and take them to the mat. My case was that it was not fixed correctly under warranty the first time and that is why it had to be done again. Sometimes if you are firm about it they will contribute something out of goodwill, especially if your dealer will go to bat for you, but it will be difficult because you are now out of warranty. On the bright side - if there is one - is I think the dealers did a lot of them and may have developed procedures to perfect the problem. Good luck.

I had the same thing happen to my viper at 1,500 miles. I had a bad seal on the water pump like you had. It was a problem on the vipers but yamaha never did a recall, however I do have good news, after my seal was replaced I now have 5,400 miles on my viper and have not had a problem since. So it seems to me like thay had a bad batch of seals and after they are replaced they are fine.
