Hi Guys,

I am looking at purchasing a 97 SX700 and during a test drive at night I noticed that the lights dim when applying the brakes. Is this something i should be worried about?

I am fairly new to the sport and apprciate any insite.

Thanks

Just a stab in the dark so to speak. It could be something else in the lighting circuit is using up most of the available wattage then when you hit the braes the 1157 bulb in the tail draws more than was available thus resulting in dimming.

Was this at idle or when running down the trail? RPM makes a big difference.

There was a few post on this. Does it have the brighter xenon highlight bulb. May have to put a led taillight bulb from autozone. Watch which one you buy one package says it's led but it is xenon.

If the owner put in brighter headlight this would happen. Nothing to worry about just get an LED tailight and no more dimming.
Ask if the headlight was changed.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

The dimming occurs when driving down the trail. I was also wearing a heated visor as well. Sounds like this is nothing to worry about and as soon as i get it I will buy the LED for the tail light.

Thanks again

the stators on those sleds are very low output relative to other modern sleds. Running a high wattage headlight buld, accessories, taillight, warmers, etc will definately cause dimming. These guys are right, an led taillight bulb works wonders.

Put the LED in the tail of my sled last week. Also put in a brighter headlight bulb. With the hand warmers on, shield plugged in, brighter bulb, LED tail, no dimming when braking. None at all. 97 600 V Max. The Autozone I bought mine at only had two packs of the LED tails... so I worked out a trade with a buddy... he gave me about 2/3 gallon of yamalube in exchange for the other bulb... he just switched to Klotz so it was a deal for both of us.

How bright is a LED tail,,can you see it ok when grippen it and rippen it down the trail and snow kicking up behind ya??

As bright or brighter than the stock bulb... and sitting side by side this weekend... my sled with LED, buddies SRX (same tail light) with stock bulb... we both had the same amount of snow on our lenses... but I think you could see mine thru the snow better than his. I've gotten in the habbit of wiping my lens off every time we stop... even if it's only for 30 seconds to let someone catch up... I reach back and take a swipe with my finger.
