Anyone know of any problems with sxviper 700 motors???-Buddies sled -02' viper went down on our first day riding in the UP. STOCK - except for a bender can and clutching-w/roller rooster sec. He has @ 4000 miles on it-not trying to start any rumors-BUT WHY????Not a dirty carb.issue-if he would have got bad gas-more of us would have burned down also???used the same gas pump..The crank feels BAD. -MAG side cylinder ....Sled started to over-rev to @ 8900RPM-ordered new springs for both clutches-didn't help...He already has ridden 800-900 miles this year...ANYONE have any thoughts???
THANKS-Matt :o|

I currently have 10,005 miles on my Viper. Put pistons and rings in just before the TY ride in Muni. If this sled you are reporting on was improperly stored, the bearings COULD, I say again COULD have some rust on them. When mine was apart, we checked endplay and runout and it was well within spec. Just 1 of many possible reasons for your buddies problem.

Yes- my first post was pretty general-No we don't have it apart yet.Would rust on crank bearings happen slowly over time - or happen the first ride?? My question on anything crank related is because most det/burndowns that don't seize-usually turn over after damage is done(easily)=no compression on that cylinder. This one has me/us scratching our heads over???? You turn it over to try and feel whats wrong(ing.keyOFF) and it doesn't feel good-hard to turn over-unbalanced-just a guess-I guess.?! I have heard of a few other viper motors go down for no aparent reason also-that were stock...thats why I posted this to see If others have have mystery problems-or if someone has already posted before??? When we fix this thing-can he use a SRX bottom end????I know its a little heavier-but I think they were stronger!!-just a thought since I remember my 98'SRX700 and the crank issues the98's had(I know it was different!!) MY 98' SRX was way faster after the crank was welded under warranty-It was way faster than my 2000 SRX!!!
Just asking for advice/help for my buddies Viper-don't usually ask this about a Yamaha-thats why it shocked everyone we ride with.......
Thanks-Matt

a 2000-02 srx bottom end only will be a direct bolt in, everything will interchange. the one thing that I can think of is the viper does not have the carb heater nipple on the w/p cover and the srx does, but if you just swapped the covers, the rest will all fit. Youd need to install the viper topend though, cylinders, heads, etc.

i have a viper crank, cases, head, two cylinders two pistons, and every thing else including a complete sled to part out
let me know if you need some tin
