New jug was at my door when I got home (a day early!). It of course comes with no studs... so how do you get the old ones out of the bad jug? Can you just use the proper length grade 6 or 8 bolt instead? A couple of the studs came out when we removed the head... nut still attached.

get 2 nuts that fit the stud and double nut them, meaning spin on the first one till theres enuff stud sticking thru the nut to thread on the other nut, then using 2 wrench's tighten them against each other, then simply back out the stud by turning the nuts with a wrench, a tip is to use a large wrench that will grip both nuts at the same time, makes it easy, then when you have stud out you can install opposite way.

Yeah, that method crossed my mind... just got to thinking that when I do a big block chevy for my boat... I don't use the head bolts more than twice... so I guess they are o.k. to use over??

Good to use unless they are extremely corroded and you don't want to take a chance. There's not much torque on these studs like we use on the big blocks. There is also a stud puller available (Snap-On and others) that really makes it easy. Don's method works well though.
