Thinking of going fom a 2 stroke Viper to the new 4 stroke RS Vector.
For those of you that did buy a 4 stroke in the past are you happy with the results. Would you go back to a 2 stroke if you didn't have that much money invested in it. I need some honest options on this subject good or bad. And of course I am talking about a Yamaha 4 stroke.

Not a chance that I would go back to the chainsaw.
Went from a 2001 700 VMAX Deluxe to a Warrior.
50% better mileage with way more power with the 1 Litre.
Quieter and a sweet sound.
No oil cost.
Costs me $20 a day less to ride. [About $500 per season]
No smell for those riding behind me.
Very smooth and lots of linear torque.
Most of this will probably apply to the Vector but I dont get to ride one until next week so cant say for sure.
The Below is Warrior stuff and will not apply to your potential purchase.
Warrior handling and ride much better when dialed in than VMAX.
No darting.
No fishtailing.
Drives like it is on rails.
Much better in the deep stuff.
More muscle required in the tight and twisties, less everwhere else since it is so stable.
Weight can be your friend depending on the types of trails you ride.
The only problem I had was with ski darting in crusty snow. It was a real handfull. I shimmed the skis and have not seen crust since to see if that fixed the problem.
I highly recommend the 4 stroke.
That being said after my issues with first year sleds from other manufacturers I would never buy another from them. I am not so sure that you shouldnt ride the Viper for 1 more year so you know for sure that it is the sled for you.
I waited until 98 before buying my first Yamaha Triple 700 and waited til
04 to get my RX Warrior. Yamaha does not seem to have the first year blues of the other three but I like to let someone else do the field testing and then listen to what they have to say.

That shimming of the ski's should take care of your darting. My Viper did it bad this year and I put the shims in and all was fine. What a difference.

No problem. That is what Toms [Mr Sled] site is all about.
Will report after the ride if we still have snow for it.
Should be April 1.

I love my piped viper and enjoyed it for 4800 trouble free miles and still runs great love the power. I also would say I was lucky enough to ride with and drive the rx-1's a few times and was very impressed how well they ran and handled. Always before this year rode with revs and f's and let me tell you that you are gaurenteed to surprise alot of other people with your fourstroke. I'm not buying one till next year or two because of the first year skid. I don't know about the new three cylinder but can say the four cylinder runs better than other people say I am itching to show them but will wait for one more year. hope this helps alittle?

I love the 4-stroke and won't go back. It's the best sled I've owned, all around.
Im going from a piped VIPER to a 05 RX-1. I stopped a lot of guys this year on the trails and they all loved them. The interesting thing was the SKI-DOO...CAT...and POLARIS guys with tham liked them too. Thats what really got me to go 4-stroke...

I just got home from ordering a 05 Venture RS I am nervous about buying a first year sled but I just can't do another year with that 600
I think I have it fixed now but I have had enough . I hope the new one will be better .

choice
Mr Tom, I assume that was a joke--as if you have a choice now--well unless you are looking for a VK.
I will own a one ton but strictly for my canada trips--and naturally it will have a turbo.

True Blue, As requested
Wednesday I rode;
05 RX1 ER, 05 Vector ER, 05 Venture.
I currently ride a Warrior.
Conditions slushy, some 18" bumps, no woops for G force landings.
For me RX1 would be my choice. For my wife and my son Vector . My son [age 22
rode them as well] He liked Vector the best.
Handling slightly better on Vector than RX1. New front end geometry is very good.
Monoshock skid on RX1 is awsome as is the weight transfer. Yamaha is on to something good here. Cat, Doo, and Poo guys were impressed. So was I.
Sled feels like it is way more than 20 lbs lighter.
Clutching smoother on Vector. RX1 is agressive.
Ride on Vector a little stiff. Rep from Yammie says they are going to soften it a bit more. Should be excellent with the change as it is similar to my Warrior now.
Vector is sneaky fast. Very smooth. You dont think the thing is pulling until you look at speedo.
Venture, [the couch] has an awsome ride. Pushed a bit in corners but it was a little icey and it had the most miles on it so carbides were probably beat.
If you are a fairly agressive rider who loves power, no question in my mind the RX1 is worth the extra green.
If not go for the Vector. IMHO you will not be disappointed .
As an aside. After riding them all, the three in our group preferred my Warrior to
the new Vector and RX1. The Warrior rides like it is on rails in all conditions due to the long track. [slushy yesterday]
Hope this helps.
