Was gettting ready to put the sled (01 SXR) up for the year and was running some stabil through it. Noticed an intermiten clicking noise that sounded like it was coming from the pipe. Anybody have any ideas where to check. Thanks

Hey me too........

My 700MM also is making a simular noise at idle, which dissappears when you give it gas. My buddy has the same sled and it doesn't. I took mine in to the dealer, had him listen to it. He wiggled and shook a few things. Couldn't tell me what it was, but wasn't to worried about it either. Performance doesn't seem to be affected. Plugs look great, Anyone have any ideas  :?:

Well

If it where me I'd be looking inside the chaincase, and or cheacking the Ebrake. I guess it could be the recoil too. But better to find it before it finds you. maxdlx

noise

mine too does this sound only at idle then disappears with gas. Ever since I got my motor rebuilt its been doing this, so its been doing this for about a week. I dont think its anything serious but I'd really like to know what it is, just in case.

I know it's not in the chaincase, I've pulled it. Ive had the pipe and can off to look. All seems to be running fine. Mine has been that way as long as I can remember. I got concerned when my buddies didn't make the sound. :?

Ticking

Any way it could be something in the motor and when it warms up it goes away as the metal expands. I haven't let the motor get real hot and then tried to listen for it.

noise

i dont know but i have a 03 sxr 600 and since it was new i had 3 noises....1st was belt squeel,it was belt deflection fixed that....2nd was chain case chain wizzing it didnt do it too bad at first during break in it was prob loose a little from stretching after i adjusted it it was loud (i think i may have adjusted it a tad too tight) so i just pulled chain case cover (had to change oil anyway) adjusted chain finger tight and backed off slightly quieted it down a lot .............3rd noise i have not been able to figure out....seems like its coming from clutch side its a slight chatter or clatter noise at about 1/8 to 1/4 throttle (not at idle) i have checked clutches they seem ok although im still learning about the clutches (i dont know everything) i have noticed 3 bolts on primary clutch that are loose but they have a spacer in the middle so i asume they are tight to spacer but you can wiggle them i dont know if thats it seems like as the primary goes round the spinning would not let them wiggle because of the transifical force ....TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT i have noticed that there is a rod down under the engine for your steering you can wiggle it ....maybe because of vibration it is making noises....could that be my noise or your guys noise? ......just an idea

noise

oh another idea if its in the motor..for you guys not necessarily my noise...........could your noise be a connector rod bearing?

I know this is a real shot in the dark, but.... I had a 250 twin once that clicked terrible at an idle. It was the center labryinth seal between the two cylinders. Yamaha started putting a pin in them in the early to mid '80's. Any possibility of a crank seal slapping back and forth as pistons go up? It would only take a couple thou to sound like that. Just a thought..... :?

Ticking

I don't know about everyone else's noise but mine might click a couple times then 10 seconds later click again, I think if it was a seal it would be a constant sound. I'm hoping since its not contant that it might be something loose or vibrating

I wondered about that...........

Mr Sled are you serious? My noise does sound like it could be coming from that area, and I have wondered about this. What ever it is, it has been there for a long time and hasn't affected the performance. Like I mentioned ealier, I did take it to my dealer and he didn't seem to concerned. Any Ideas what could be in the recoil thats vibrating? This is somethinng I have not had apart on my sled.......Thanks,Soc :?

Yes, very serious....I have heard this before many times and for the most part its no big deal. The dogs that fly out and grab the fly wheel will chatter on occasion at idle.
