Has anyone tried running a overdrive sheave. Just curious to know if they actually work. I read somewere that they will give you extra topend without taking anything away from the bottom end power. How does this work and does it work ?????

junk,junk,junk,junk,junk,junk, did I say junk?
What is so bad about the hauck O D sheave? I think as long as your secondary is set up to shift out all the way they should work well together.

In order for the overdrive sheeve to work and work well, you must remove .080" off the inside of the helix or else the overdrive sheeve is pointless.

I use to run you also have to move the motor to make them work but there hard on beldt's.You got two different angles on your primary.
I have the roller secondary from hi-tech which is supposed to allow the secondary to open all the way.

The Hi-Tech roller will open enough to run the overdrive sheave, or you can machine the stock helix down to the bushing, The secondary will then open enough for the overdrive to work. The Hi-Tech roller is an awesome secondary, backshift is second to none. I think the Hauck overdrive sheave has the same angle as stock but I'm not sure. The Hi-Tech actually had a concave surface that the belt rode on, that was a belt BLOWER. Yes I ran one of those too.

The overdrive sheeve is .5 a degree steeper then the stock. I run our overdrive sheeve with a machined helix and our roller secondary kit and it really performs well. Havent had any belt problems either.

overdrive sheave is snake oil, the sleds not any faster with it. When a sled is up into over drive your losing clutch efficiency! The harder you bend the belt, in either the primary or secondary clutch, the more power it takes to turn it, sorry but plain fact. Thats why youll always be the fastest from point a to b with 1:1 ratio. You see it actually takes more power from the engine to run in overdrive then it does at 1:1, about 10-15 percent. Seems to be a big falacy about having your belt go all the way up to the top of the clutch. Youll see guys using magic markers and then changing gearing and sheaves to get the belt all the way up to the top. Been here and tested it on timers, NOT faster and it doesnt hang onto the belt as well. So you make your own decisions on how well they do.

i have never tried the hauck sheave so i can't say if it is "snake oil " or not. however, i have spent countless hours testing & tuning the stock yamaha primary & advant - edge roller secondary by adding various degrees of o.d. to the clutches. i have duplicated this setup from my race sled to my trail sleds & not only are the sleds quicker but they are also faster. getting o.d. to work properly is a combination of the correct clutch parts & gearing.
i would say if one was to spend enough time with the hauck sheave that you could get it to work. pat hauck has used this on his race sleds for years & i think it would safe to say he has won more races than everyone put together on this site.
