I need your suggestions again.
I have heard that using the larger Polaris idler wheels, to reduce hyfax wear, will warp the edge of the track; is this true?
Should I use the larger idler wheels or use the margional wheel kit?
P.S. the track is loose; it has over an inch of sag when the rear of the sled is lifted off the ground.

I don't know from experience but logicaly i would say that if you only have changed the rear wheels and not the intermediate wheels that it would still cause a problem as the track would get pushed up to the highfax's while riding.

I am not replacing the rear or intermediate wheels; I am asking about the idler wheels that are mounted on the bottom of the rail just behind the bend at the front of the rail.

You're the first person I've ever heard say that. If I remember correctly, the Poo wheels are 1/8" larger diameter than the Yamaha ones. If thats the case, then the radius is only 1/16" bigger, meaning the track would only have to flex an extra 1/16". I think studs would force the track to move around more than that when the wheels run over them. If they are infact only an 1/8" bigger on the diameter, then I myself wouldn't be concerned about it.

Now, I have heard from more than one person that the marginal wheel kits tend to freeze up and flat spot the wheels.

You are probably aware of this but the wear limit onthe hyfax is 10mm so if you use open end wrenches to check the thickness as they wear. My last set probably wore down to around 12mm and stopped. I changed them this year because I changed the color scheme of the sled. Two seasons and about 3500 Km on them with the stock track. This year I have a Ripsaw, with every third closed so we;ll see how it does. 00 Venture 600

Some food for thought anyways.

I ditched all my wheels (just running 3 on the rear axle and two on the top) and am running rail mount ice scratchers. I don't spend too much time on trail but the snow has been horrible this year and can't believe how well they work! Maybe try a pair mounted between the wheels or a pair of the ski mounted scratchers.
