I bought a 04 viper with 260 miles on it after putting on a whopping 19 miles in the snowless winter of 05-06.
I did all the by-the-book maintenance on the sled this weekend. I went in to check the primary chain tensioner. the book says finger tight. I got big fingers, so I made it sort of tight, then backed off a little. Ended up maybe a half turn in from where it was. What the hell is finger tight? How do you adjust yours???
thanks,
mike

Fiinger tight is as tight as you can make it with just your fingers.

thanks,
no torque requirement?
what happens if it's too loose, or too tight?

Nope, no torque requirement. You can't really make it to tight with your fingers. If its too loose you will be able to hear it as well and you will feel a kinda jerky motion when just crawling along or when taking off slow.

I go finger tight and then back off about 1/4 - 3/8 turn. Chains that are too loose will wear quickly and break prematurely, chains that are too tight will rob horsepower and also wear quickly.
