Anyone have any information on a widening kit for a 1991 Phazer? Getting ready to do a rebuild/project sled. I know at one time that Yamaha offered a widening kit for sale as well as some aftermarket cos. offering one.

Any information would be appreciated.

Not aware of a widening kit for the Phazer, but since yours is a 91, it should be the Phazer2 model which did incorporate the wider front end from the orginal 84 -90 model years. Maybe a SX Exciter front end would work? They were a few inches wider than the standard Exciter -Phazer stance. I have a 93 SX Exciter I am considering parting out if I dont sell it as a complete sled.
What is the current centerline stance?

Youa re correct, it is a Phazer II. I also have a '96 Phazer II and the stance is at least 4" wider.

While I am sure I could use parts from a '96, I was wondering if the kit might be cheaper or more efficient.

If I go with the '96 parts ( I believe that was the first year that Yamaha made the sleds significantly wider in stock form) I need to buy side panels, rods, shock towers and probably a few other pieces.

As I am looking at a rebuild from the bottom-up, I would prefer something newish in terms of parts. The dealer woudl be quie expensive so I imagine that I will start trolling ebay.

I missed bidding on a NOS widening kit today. I am sure that another will come up; when and where are two different questions though.

Although I have never been, perhaps I will have to wait until HayDays and make my way there.

Bender Racing used to make a widening kit for a Phazer but I couldn't find it on their website. Drop them an email, they might be able to help.

Phazer II's were 36.3" and the 96-97's were 40" with the exception of the Mountain lights. I have a new kit for the 1990 up to the 95's including side panels in white and the frame extensions call 814 354-2687 eve/wknds. if interested !

I owned several phazers and phazerII's in my opinion the phazerII is the ultimate play sled and really dont care for the newer wider phazer ss, I would leave it the way it is!!
