Arctic Cat's...........LOL!!!

Was up in northern Wisc. last weekend riding the snirt. One of our new machinists was riding with us, but was riding green. It was a 2002 ZR800 EFI. I'll admit it was fast, would slightly pull my Viper by a length in midrange, then we were dead locked on top end.(keep in mind it was an EFI sled and it was mid to high 30's) But these photos were also what I witnessed alot. The first one he blew a belt at 100MPH + running next to me on the Chippewa Flowage. The other he was working on the recoil. Later the recoil went to heck again and he pulled it off and used the tool kit rope. Funny thing about snowmobilers. Two groups passed us (all Poo's, Cat's and Doo's) The Doo and Poo riders pointed and chuckled while the Cat riders put their heads down and looked straight ahead.

All in all our Cat rider co-worker is a good kid, but we had to give him a hard time. He was pretty humble afterwards. :yam:

that's sledding!!

Tell him to sell that thing and go BLUE!!!

Well he is pretty humble. He really doesn't brag Cat up at all and respects Yamaha as being darn reliable. He seems a bit perturbed by the poor reliability of this sled. He claims he was more of a Polaris rider but they didn't have much at the time that was fast. He also told me one of his good friends has a stock 2002 SRX and they run dead even and sometimes his Cat gets a half a length on him in certain conditions. I asked how long they ran. He said around 1/4 mile. I do believe if it was cooler this past weekend, mine would have given him a harder time. Mine felt kind of flat being it was so warm.

They tend to get a little doggy when it's really warm.

Same thing happend this weekend with a guy in our group. The new guy were riding with blew a belt out on the lake. I stayed with them all the way to about 90kms and then he pulled away.. Not bad considering he had a 1.25" track with 192 studs and alot more power on me and I have a stock viper with some minor clutching with stock track with 144 studs. I even took a RX-1 on the lake twice.. He was pissed.. ha ha.. Lake running is so addicting.

2nd on the Go Blue. I saw so many Yamahas this past weekend in the Indian River, MI. There was even a pack of Attacks (5 of them) running. Blue all the way.

Your lucky to have those pics, that must be some guy you work with. Whenever my friends sleds break down im not allowed to take pics as they feel im rubbing it in more.

I too am seeing more yams out ont he trails and more and more people I ride with have them now.

what do you have done to your viper for mods? b/c if you are stock, a zr800 should eat a stocker viper. i ride with a zr800 and i can't hold a candle to it with my viper

I have the 1.25" Predator track, TPI's and Heavy Hitters......that's it. It's always been a hard runner. I have given a couple SRX's and RX-1's fits too. As for the pictures, I kind of snuck them in. LOL!!

PS: I forgot to mention. I met another happy APEX owner on the ride. He is rogfos on the TY 4 stroke forum.

2002 Zr * Efi

[Wife had ZR 800 EFI one of the most reliable sleds of 37 we have owned, 7400 miles (1) set of sldes 1 Boogie whee( NO BS) QUOTE=journeyman]Arctic Cat's...........LOL!!!

Well that proves you can can a good one or bad one in any brand no doubt. I do know I have had very good luck with Yamaha's and that's why I keep coming back to them. I have no reason to look elsewhere. In all honesty, I really like the looks of the orange F6 & F7's.

I will say that a well tuned ZR800 will run good. I ride a lot with 2 guys who own them. One is EFI and one is carbed. The EFI is bone stock. The carbed is owned by a pretty good wrench. The carbed sled will run identical to my 05RX1 on top end., but I do have him in the mid range with a filter kit and clutching. He is running stock clutching. He just knows how to jet it and work the stock clutching. They are pigs from the factory.
A well tuned ZR will eat a stock viper. I had a Viper with Aaen's pipes and Maxiums set up on the clutch and they were about neck and neck. The viper would pull the ZR a hare...but not much. When the Viper was stock, it would get eaten alive.
In fact that carbed ZR he bought off a guy that sold it to him with 500 miles on it. The guy hated the sled. I rode it before and after. You would NEVER have thought it was the same sled. IF this guy who sold him the sled rode it now, he would have never sold it.
It's all in jetting and clutching when it comes to a stocker. They are fat as hell from the factory. He even turns down the oil pump as far as it will go. Thank god...because it does make a huge difference if your behind him.
This is his 2nd ZR he has run this way. He had about 6500 miles on the one he sold last season.

I just got back from the UP today. Conditions were the best I have ever ridden up there. The trail groomers were doing an excellent job. My sled runs neck and neck on the lake with three different RX-1's(very close). I also ran practically neck and neck on the lake with a new REV800 gade powertek. I got to ride the new APEX's at Pat's Yamaha. All I can say is WOW!!! They absolutley rock!! We ran the ATTAK against my Viper on rolling runs and it kicked my butt REALLY bad. One of the worst whippings I have ever taken by a stock sled. Way to go Yamaha. They have a real winner with the APEX sleds. BTW, it rides awesome too!! We stayed in the cabin Yamaha's R&D team stayed in the week before us. Thanks Yamaha for all the pizzas and beer you left in the fridge. It is all gone now!! LOL!!

NOTE: another stock Viper was with us. Mine reeled him in on the lake. Like I have said, I have a real good running one. We had a former snowcross racer with us that owned two REV's and a Nathan Titus replica '99 SX760 Hauck race sled. He rode my Viper yesterday for about 50+ miles up by the copper harbor and couldn't believe how well my sled pulled. To be honest, I have ridden most all of the newer sleds and the only trail engines I like better than the Viper is the 4-stroke Yammies. That new REV800 motor sure vibrates alot on the low end. I was on that while he rode my Viper yesterday.
