Just kind of wondering... are there other advantages to a long (say, 136") track over a short (121") track if you mostly ride groomed trails and like the sharp curves? Seems to me a long track would be tougher to work thru the twisties than a short track.

Just curious as to what others think.

A lot of guys swear by the long track, simply because the way you have to look at it is, most of the bumps and moguls being made in the trails come from 121" sleds. If you have say a 136" you will likely glide over most of those bumps. I like my 121", but my next sled will have a longer track on it.

If you have the power, it's better to have more track, most of the time. My Viper hooks up better under acceleration AND braking. The added tracklength aids in bridging bumps, and when setup PROPERLY, loses very little if any handling. Good aggressive skis and wearbars compensate for more track push in corners. Ask anyone from the TY rides that I have attended, my sled corners HARD!! I will likely never own a 121 for my use.

I mostly trail ride, and I don't think I would want to go back to a 121 after I extended my RX-1. These guys are right, get the rear skid setup properly and a good set of skis on the front and they'll corner as good as they ever did.

The 136" really added alot of stability that my RX-1 lacked in the beginning, I would not go back.

I have 2 SRXs, one with 121" and the other with 136" and both with 1 1/2" paddles. I kind of like the longer track myself but my son claims he would rather have the 121" running the mountain trails hard. Says he uses his weight to kick the rear of the 121 around and can't do that with the 136".

I will never own a short track again
I really think my next sled will be 144 x 16 x 2 or 2-1/4 paddle

we longtracked my buddies 97 sx 700 last year to 136 and that thing is incredible on the trails. The short travel suspension on that thing it really digs HARD in the corners, and it is SO much more stable when you get back on it out of the corner. It is just incredible how little attention it takes to keep that thing going straight down the trail. And bumps? It took them better than my '01 SX 700R, and long travel srx. Definately want to longtrack one of mine.
