I wounder what the difference is between a viper engine and a srx engine? i am putting one of those in my 02 mm700 and can`t figure out wich one.

viper has a little bit higher exhaust ports for higher port timing, and with stock heads runs a little bit more compression on two cylinders (center and mag) than the srx. Viper is staggered compression straight jetting, srx is straight compression staggered jetting. Bottom ends are pretty much the same as long as you are comparing 00-02 srx with the viper.

brauten, sorry about jacking your thread but i gotta ask this question, its been burning me. keeping in mind yamaholic explaination about compression and jetting on a viper and srx.

here's the question-why is it when you change to an aftermarket head (peak or megapower) on a piped viper, changing to straight compression, you do not need to stagger jetting? what am i missing here?

thanks

Viper engine have a one piece head that seals with a gasket, srx have one head for each cylinder and seals with o-rings.
The viper cylinders are shorter on the exhaust side and have longer exhaust manifolds. Look at the pictures and you will understand.
I think also that viper has a lighter crank.
