I own a 1997 SX700 with some clutching issues. The engagement and shift RPM are too high. I know what your thinking wrong spring or wrong arms and rivets. I replaced the arms, the rivets and the spring with stock components. In addition the secondary spring is correct. The engagement RPM is aprox. 5k and the shift is in the stratosphere. I don’t want to blow this thing up. What could the problem be????

There are two types of primary springs. Short spring and long spring. Your sled should have the short spring. Yamaha then changed to a long primary cover, which needs a long spring. 98+ SRXS have these, then following year or two the rest of the models got the long spring and primary cover. Im in the understanding that the longer spring would raise engagement. Also, i think your sled should have the 14.5 rollers, larger rollers effect clutching also. Im sure someone can determine your problem.
