i have PI pipes on my sled and ive seen people saying that they wrapp their pipes on sxr 600 with exhaust wrap to keep them hot. they claim that their sled is has only as much hp with cold pipes as stock? would it be benificail to me to wrap my pipes. ive notcie some hp increaas but not a ton like most people claim. to get the most out of teh pipes whould i wrap them or maybe block the vents that cool the pipes?

I wouldn't block the vents as you would then be retaining under hood heat, robs horsepower. Either wrap the pipes or get them ceramic coated. I personally would go with ceramic as wrapping can be a mess sometimes and ceramic looks better! Haven't heard too much about the cold pipe deal with same hp as stock, only that keeping the pipes warm makes the sled a little less tempermental and has smoother power throughout RPM. The theory behind it is that it keeps the pipe hotter making the gases travel faster resulting in more hp. How much of an effect this actually has i don't know, but you'll find more help.

block the two square vents under the bumper and run temp probes if you are going to wrap or you wont know if they are two hot.the theory is if you want a good run radar or drags you heat up the pipes with a fast idle or lanches not!!! pulling in from a qwick blast across a lake if it ever gets cold again.

The theory is...... The hotter the pipe, The closer to combustion temperature it keeps the fuel charge that is in the pipe. Reversion, is what causes the gases in the pipe to be momentarily pushed backwards into the cylinder. That is casued by the shape of the pipe and that is why specific lengths and diameters and tapers are used for specific engines, hence the term "tuned pipes". So Wrapping the pipe will keep the pipe closer to the desired temp, but also makes the combustion chamber temp hotter and should therefore be monitored with EGT. It will also stress the pipe more than normal due to the high tempuratres.
