Just put some nice big mirrors on her and ride!!!!! just kidding i don't know much about motors running backwards........... :WayCool:

how does it go backwards if u pull it over in the right way? some old out board motors would run backwards if u killed them and at one of the last revultions of the motor give the pull cord a quick little pop and tun the ignition back on cause it would pop bacwards on the compreshion stroke and run backwards. i think most 2 strokes can run back words its wich way u pull it over check to make shur they didnt put the recoil back together wrong some how.

I heard of this before and Terret is pretty much on the money, if you crank it backwards it will run backwards.
Crazy, I won't second guess you but have a real close look at what direction your crank is being turned, if this is your problem the cost to fix it will be almost nil. IMy guess is you do not have an electric starter. Too bad!

I pull it over slow and it gose the right way but I think that you were right the 2nd time terret . Becaus when i pull it over some times it will stop right in the middel of pulling it over like it is locked up. but when i let the rope go and pull again it is fine. till it starts (backwards). Well the guys down at the yamaha dealer ship have got it now so they got it coverd. $100 later well ok $50 (i hope). he said that 50 is a good start. we'll see.

Careful, you may be in trouble with Ski-doo for RER patent infringement. Ha-Ha

ya odds are that it's an ignition timing issue (to advanced)

piston port and reed valve 2-strokes can all run backwards, most rotary valve 2-strokes will run backwards, but not well, the piston and reed port ones don't care they'll run equally well in either direction.

Well you never said what sled it is, some of the older ones could run backwards while, later ones have an anti reversing coil on the stator, but lets go back to the obvious, it didn't do this before the motor was rebuilt, did it. I'd bet he has the stator in wrong. Also, you said maybe the carb should be rebuilt? Someone built an engine and didn't do the carb?????????

yup definately timing issue of some sort as these guys are saying. Get in there and check out the position of the stator. Make sure the flywheel is aligned with the keyway on the crank (seems obvious but check it).

I do not have a stator it for sure pulls over the right way. This is a 1981 yamaha enticer 300. We paid the guy to put new seals on it and to get us the motor. Because I locked up my bottom end one my first motor.

it has an armature plate which needs to be timed correctly, plug wires shouldn't matter it onlt has one coil with plug leads
