Basicly your moving the mounting points down in the tunnel.
Dropping it down will increase running board clearance, which is helps in deep snow. Draw backs are, weight transfer is usually reduced, also the sled can be slightly more tippy feeling on the trail.

i use it as when i remove the rear and center bolts and jack up the rear of the seld to work on the shocks etc.. but as for what MTviper said tahst what most people prollys concider droping the skid.
