I'm trying to replace the water pump impeller on my friends 98' SRX 700. I can't get the impeller itself off for the life of me. I've busted almost all the fins off from pulling on it. Is there a secret to removing these? I'm also sure that this was not the overheating problem like I hoped it was. Not only am I back to square one on the overheating problem, but now I have to get this out and put back together. Anyone??????

you may need a little heat, aluminum expands twice as fast as steel. some guys like to use red loc tite on the shaft, and the only way to get it to budge is some heat.

exactly what i was thinking. Get a little heat on the impeller (try to keep the shaft itself as cool as possible while getting the impeller as hot as possible to maximize the expansion difference). That should get her to pop.

I tried a little heat but got scared when it started smoking from the back side. I'll try again and keep the flame on the impeller.

check your thermostate seen 3 of them fail on 98s and they stick shut when they do.and a brazeing tip is the best for fine heat.
