I bought this machine with low miles, the original ownwer used yamaha lube and i have since switch to full synthetic, lately ive noticed that when the machine comes back to an idle it rev's to 4000 then after a second or two goes back down to normal idle rev's. Otherwise she run's great. Could it be that it rev's a little higher because of the synthetic oil ?

nope. synthetic's are not the problem
i had the same problem with my sled.
at idle my sled always sounded like it wanted to stall so i bumped up the idle about 100 -200 rpm. i started seeing the exact same problem you are describing.
i read a little about it on here and ended up turning the idle back down till the problem stopped.
i bet you just need to back down your idle screw, give it a try it wont hurt.

i set the fuel screws to 2 full turns out and it starts and runs better than the stock 1 7/8 setting.

do that, it will solve your problem, given your throttle cable isn't adjusted too tight.

The idle does come back down after 3 or 4 seconds but i will try what you guys just told me to do. It could be the cables are streched a little , i just added a one inch riser.

When it is idling high flip the choke to half position, if the idle drops as soon as you do this, you have an lean idle condition. Easy to fix...turn fuel screws out to 2 turns as mentioned above.

Mine does it too, and drops right down when i hit the choke, but my fuel screws are already 2-1/4 turns out.... should i turn them out more?
where are the fuel screw located on the carbs? guess the carbs needs to be taken out to adjust them?

yes- you do need to take them out- the fuel screws are on the bottom of the carbs
ok.. Do you recommend two full turns on a piped viper as well? not shure what jetting and clip the last owner did, but i know he didnt change other jets than the mains.. he thought he remembered them to be 165 or so..

Yep the synthetic thing changed mine as well.rx1orgohome said:High idle; does this happen more often after a hard ride or slow driving. Mine was after a hard ride let idle 3-4 sec 4000rpm then ldled to 17-1800rpm. If I shut down too early it backfires once. Called my dealer, he states that the exhaust gets too hot and that the engine cpu tells it to run hi to cool off any heat in the exhaust, This only happened after I went syn. Dealer says the syn is designed to run a little hotter. Not to worry about it just let it do it's thing.
